LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lady Lions continued to struggle in the non-league portion of their schedule Tuesday, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Miami Trace Lady Panthers.           Fairfield pitcher Lauren Larrick struck out 15 Lady Panther batters, but walked six batters in the game.
Whitney Hanenkrat blasted a towering home run in the fourth inning, her fourth of the year.
Miami Trace (11-10, 8-4) scored three runs in the top of the first inning on two infield singles, a hit batter and a single to centerfield off the bat of Haley Hagler. Larrick only allowed one more hit the rest of the game.
The Lady Lions (10-7, 9-3) bounced back to score a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Heather Huff led off with a double down the left field line. Danielle Butler moved Huff to third base with a sacrifice bunt. Abby Thackston knocked in Huff on a ground out to the third baseman.
FHS cut the deficit to a single run, 3-2, as Hanenkrat hit a home run over the right-centerfield fence.
Miami Trace scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make the score 5-2.
Fairfield put a runner in scoring position the sixth inning as Thackston doubled down the right field line. But that would be as close as FHS would get to scoring a run.
Kylie Bates, Huff, Thackston and Hanenkrat all finished with one hit.
Larrick (10-7) suffered the loss for the Lady Lions and Olivia Mick picked up the win for the Lady Panthers.
Larrick went seven innings, allowing four hits, five runs (three earned). Mick also pitched seven innings. She allowed two runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk. Mick gained two strikeouts.[[In-content Ad]]
