Fairfield Lions earn wins over Paint Valley and Eastern

In recent games, the Fairfield Lions earned a Southern Hills Athletic Conference and a non-conference win, defeating Eastern and Paint Valley.
For the season, the Lions are 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the SHAC.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Lions defeated the Paint Valley Bearcats, 48-34 in a non-conference game at Grandle Gymnasium.
In the win the Lions trailed 12-4 at the end of the first quarter, but following a 14-7 second quarter in favor of the home team Lions, it was Fairfield trailing the Bearcats by just one point at halftime by a 19-18 score.
FHS turned the tables in the third frame, as they outscored Paint Valley 12-4, and in the fourth they did the same thing as the Lions outscored the Bearcats, 18-11 for the 14-point win.
Wyatt Collins led the Lions in scoring with 15 points, while next were Tytis Cannon and Trey House with nine points each.
Larkin Friend finished with six points, while TJ Mootz totaled five points for Fairfield. Rounding out the scoring was Gunner Bennington with four points.
The Lions totaled 35 rebounds with Mootz leading the team with 10 boards, while Bennington and Cannon each had six. Friend and Cannon each led the Lions with five assists, and it was Bennington leading FHS with three steals, and he was the blocks leader with one.
On Friday, Dec. 2, the Fairfield Lions defeated Eastern, 64-37 to gain an SHAC win at EHS.
FHS led 21-8 after the first frame, and following a 16-9 second quarter for the Lions over the Warriors, it was Fairfield who led by a 37-17 score.
The third frame saw FHS score 15 points, while Eastern added 10 points to their total, and in the fourth and final quarter it was the Lions outscoring The Warriors, 12-10.
In the winm the Lions had three players who scored in double figures, those being TJ Mootz with 17 points, Tytis Cannon with 16 points and Wyatt Collins with 10 points.
Other final scoring totals for the Lions included: Gunner Bennington (two), Larkin Friend (seven), Trey House (four), Gabe Fouch (three) and Cade Miller (five).
Leading FHS in rebounding was Bennington with eight. The assists leader was Friend with five, and the steals leader was Cannon with two. Bennington also led the Lions in blocks with three in the win over Eastern.
As a team, the Lions totaled 29 rebounds and were 28-of-45 from the free-throw line.
Fairfield’s next game is Friday, Dec. 16 on the road at North Adams in SHAC action.
