Fairfield Lady Lions win Division I SHAC volleyball championship

Friday, Oct. 14 saw the Fairfield Lady Lions win the 2022 Division I Southern Hills Athletic Conference volleyball championship with a 3-2 win over the visiting North Adams Lady Green Devils at Grandle Gymnasium.
North Adams won the first set at 25-15, but the Lady Lions battled for a set two win of 25-19. The third set belonged to Fairfield at 25-16, but this time it was North Adams winning set four at 25-23. The fifth and final set saw the Lady Lions win at 15-13.
In the win, the Lady Lions were led in kills by Jobey Hattan with 19 and Peyton Magee with 12. Paris Priest had seven kills for FHS, and with four each were Mackenzie Alexander, Faith Miller and Haley Shoemaker.
Leading in assists was Miller with 40, while Priest and Magee each had two, and with one assist each were Anderson and Shelby Rice.
Hattan also led the Lady Lions with seven aces, and Magee followed with four aces. Other players with aces in the win were Miller and Mikalah Sheridan with two each.
Five Fairfield players had double-digit digs, with Magee leading with 18, followed by Miller with 16, Hattan with 15, Priest with 15 and Rice with 11. Anderson and Sheridan each finished with four digs.
Fairfield also had three blocks with McKinley Cox, Priest and Shoemaker each having one block against North Adams.
The win on Friday gave Fairfield sole possession of the Division I title, as they are 12-1 in SHAC play this season, with North Adams finishing 11-2. In Division II, Peebles won the SHAC championship with a 12-1 record. The lone losses in SHAC play for both Peebles and Fairfield were in head-to-head games against each other.
Overall, the Lady Lions are 17-4, as they have won their past five matches.
Fairfield will play in the sectional round of the Division IV Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 20 as they are a No. 8 seed. They will face the winner of No. 32 Lynchburg-Clay and No. 17 Meigs at 6 p.m.
