The following are recaps from recent Fairfield softball games.
Fairfield Lady Lions fall to Manchester
The Fairfield Lady Lions’ quest for an undefeated run through the Southern Hills Athletic Conference came to an end Monday on the banks of the Ohio River, as Fairfield (14-3, 8-1 SHAC) fell to the Manchester Lady Greyhounds (12-3, 8-2 SHAC) by a 6-5 score.
The Lady Greyhounds took advantage of five Lady Lion errors to score five unearned runs in the game. The Lady Lions gave up four unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning and another unearned run in the bottom of the third inning to fall behind 5-0.
Fairfield finally scored a run in the top of the fourth inning, but Manchester added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Fairfield Lady Lions never give up and mounted a rally in the top of the sixth inning.
Halle Hamilton led off the inning with a single up the middle. Following an out, Caitlyn Quickle singled past the shortstop as Hamilton advanced to third base. Emmi Vance singled to right field, scoring Hamilton.
Sydney Sanders singled to centerfield to score Gwen Cox running for Quickle. Faith Miller ripped a line drive single to right centerfield to drive home Vance. Sanders scored on a throwing at third base as Miller representing the tying run moved to third base, but Miller was stranded at third base as the inning came to an end.
Both teams failed to score in the seventh inning.
Quickle suffered the loss for Fairfield. Quickle gave up only one earned run while striking out eight Lady Hound batters.

Fairfield Lady Lions blank Fayetteville Lady Rockets, 10-0
The Fairfield Lady Lions hosted the Fayetteville Lady Rockets and defeated their conference foe, 10-0. Fairfield dominated the game behind a three-hit shutout by sophomore pitcher Caitlyn Quickle as the Lady Lion bats were red hot, pounding out 11 hits in the 10-0 victory.
The game was as advertised as both teams failed to score in the first and second innings, but the Fairfield erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third inning.
With one out, sophomore right fielder Sydney Hooper was safe on an infield hit. Halle Hamilton followed with a single up the middle to advance Hooper to second base. Jobey Hattan blasted a home run over the centerfield fence to give the Lady Lions a 3-0 lead.
Quickle singled, Emmi Vance singled, and Sydney Sanders doubled down the right field foul line to knock in both Quickle and Vance. Faith Miller was safe on an error advancing Sanders to second base. Carly Sanders singled to centerfield to drive in Sydney Sanders.
Fairfield scored five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Hamilton singled, Hattan was hit by a pitch and Quickle was safe on an error to load the bases. Vance stepped to the plate and hit a mammoth grand slam home run over the left field fence. Sydney Sanders followed with a single up the middle, Miller was safe on an error and Carly Sanders singled to drive in Sydney Sanders to complete the scoring.
Caitlyn Quickle (9-1) was the winning pitcher for Fairfield as she pitched five innings, allowing no runs on three hits and one walk. She finished with four strikeouts.

Fairfield Lady Lions rally to win over Peebles
The Fairfield Lady Lions defeated the Peebles Lady Indians by a 7-2 score for a SHAC win.
With two outs in the top of the first inning, Caitlyn Quickle hit the first of four doubles in the game to the right field fence, but her teammates stranded her at second base.
Peebles scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Darby Mills walked to lead off the inning for Peebles, and the Lady Lions misplayed a bunt by Lily McFarland. Both advanced to second and third on a groundout, and both scored on a single to right field by Emmi Nichols.
Fairfield bounced back to tie the game in the top of the third inning. With two outs and no one on base, Halle Hamilton singled to the left side of the infield, and Jobey Hattan laced a single to right centerfield, advancing Hamilton to second base. Both scored on a double to the left centerfield fence off the bat of Quickle.
The Lady Lions took the lead 3-2 with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Faith Miller singled up the middle, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and scored on a single to right field by Carly Sanders.
Quickle was dominating on the mound in the third, fourth and fifth inning, striking out eight consecutive Peebles batters. Peebles put two runners on base in the sixth inning, but Quickle again put out the threat.
The score remained 3-2 as the Lady Lions came to bat in the top of the seventh inning. Hamilton led off the inning with a single to left field, but was forced out at second base on a ground ball by Jobey Hattan.
Quickle doubled to left field advancing Halle Hattan to third base. Vance blasted a towering sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to score Hattan. Sydney Sanders then blasted a home run over the centerfield fence for a two run home run. Miller was safe on an error and scored on a double by Hannah Hamilton to take a 7-2 lead.
Peebles scratched out two more hits in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Quickle closed the door to pick up her eighth victory of the season.
Quickle was the winning pitcher for Fairfield, throwing a complete seven-inning game. She allowed two runs (both unearned) on four hits and three walks, with seven strikeouts.

Fairfield Lady Lions defeat West Union
Fairfield traveled to West Union High School to take on the West Union Lady Dragons, winning by a 16-1 score. Katelyn Chambliss limited the Lady Dragons to only two hits and one earned run as the Lady Lions played errorless softball behind her.
The Lady Lions’ offense had five players with multiple hits as Jobey Hattan blasted three triples and Emmi Vance also had three hits including two doubles.
Fairfield scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second inning, seven in the third inning and two in the fifth inning.

Fairfield Lady Lions gain non-conference win against Valley
The Fairfield Lady Lions travelled to Veterans Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe for a softball game with the Lucasville Valley Indians. Fairfield continued their relentless offense pounding out 15 hits to defeat the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians 21-5 in five innings.
The FHS offense had six players with two hits each in the 15-hit parade including six for extra bases. Emmi Vance hit her second home run of the season in the third inning.
After a scoreless first inning, Fairfield erupted for 15 runs in the second inning. Both teams played through a light rain in the third inning that affected both pitcher’s ability to grip the ball. Valley scored five runs in the top of the third inning and Fairfield answered with six runs in the bottom of the third inning to complete the scoring.

Fairfield Lady Lions split games at Ironton Invitational
The Fairfield Lady Lions travelled to Ironton on Saturday to play two outstanding softball teams in the Ironton Invitational on an absolutely beautiful day for softball on the banks of the Ohio River.
In Game 1, Fairfield faced the Cabell Midland Lady Knights, the defending West Virginia Class AAA State Champion. Fairfield could not recover from a seven-runs on seven hits third inning by the defending West Virginia state champs to lose 11-2.
The Lady Lions had an uncharacteristic four errors in the third inning.
In Game 2, the Fairfield Lady Lions (10-2, 5-0 SHAC) defeated the Ohio Valley Conference champion Ironton Lady Tigers in dramatic come from behind fashion.
Fairfield went down in order in the top of the first inning. Lady Lion pitcher Caitlyn Quickle struck out the first two Lady Tigers in the bottom of the first inning, but first team All-Ohio Pitcher and Ohio University commit Keegan Moore launched a home run over the centerfield fence to give Ironton a 1-0 lead.
Both pitchers shut down the opponents over the next four innings, but Ironton added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on singles by Keegan Moore, Bella Sorbill and Braylin Wallace.
Fairfield came to the plate in the top of the seventh inning down 3-0 with only two hits to their credit in the first six innings.
But the young Lady Lions never gave up.
Quickle singled to lead off the inning. Emmi Vance followed with a single to centerfield and Sydney Sanders doubled to right field driving in Quickle and sending Vance to third.
With runners on second and third, Carly Sanders came off the bench to pinch hit and laced a single down the right field line to tie the score 3-3.
Faith Miller laced a line drive single to centerfield to advance Carly Sanders to second base. Hannah Hamilton laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt to move Sanders to third and Miller to second. Senior Captain Halle Hamilton stepped to the plate with two outs. Down to her last strike, Halle Hamilton singled to centerfield to drive home both Sanders and Miller and give her team a 5-3 lead.
Fairfield Lady Lion pitching ace Quickle put down the Ironton Lady Tigers in order in the bottom of the seventh inning striking out the final Lady Tiger batter to win the game and seal the victory.

Fairfield Lady Lions defeat Ripley, 14-2
The Fairfield Lady Lions gained a victory over the Ripley Lady Blue Jays by a 14-2 score in five innings before a capacity crowd at the Fairfield Baseball/Softball Complex on a beautiful sunny day for softball.
The Lady Lion hitters pounded out 15 hits on the afternoon. Fairfield’s offense was led by Faith Miller and Jobey Hattan with three hits each. Halle Hamilton, Caitlyn Quickle and Emmi Vance each had two hits.
Fairfield wasted no time getting on the scoreboard.
After a scoreless first inning by the Lady Blue Jays, Fairfield scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Halle Hamilton drew a base on balls to lead off the inning, Jobey Hattan followed with a single and Quickle singled to drive in Hamilton.
Emmi Vance hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to drive in Hattan. Sydney Sanders was safe on an error and as Quickle score. Sanders later scored on a wild pitch.
Ripley looked to answer in the top of the second inning, Marleen Flowers singled to the left side of the infield, Isabelle Siegle was safe on an error, and Riley Finn singled to load the bases with no outs, but Katelyn Chambliss and the Lady Lion defense sat down the next three batters in order to leave the bases loaded.
The score remained 4-0 into the bottom of the third inning, when the Lady Lions offense erupted for nine runs on nine hits to take a commanding 13-0 lead. Fairfield scored their final run in the bottom of the fourth inning and Ripley added two runs in the top of the fifth inning to complete the scoring.
Katelyn Chambliss was the winning pitcher for Fairfield. In five innings, she allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks, with four strikeouts.
