Errors continue to hurt Lions, fall to Rockets

     FAYETTEVILLE - The Fairfield Lions were unable to off-set their fielding errors Thursday against the Fayetteville Rockets. Committing six errors, double the amount of the Rockets, the Lions gave up three runs in the third as they fell in Southen Hills League play 5-1.
    The Lions scattered six hits, the same amount as the Rockets, in seven innings, but had just two in the first four innings.
    Fairfield's lone run came in the fifth, where they added two hits.
    The top of the fifth was led off with a single by Jordan Boles. With two outs, Bobby Wilson doubled, allowing Boles to reach third base. Boles scored on a passed ball during the ensuing at-bat.
    Fayetteville scored one run in the first three innings with Williams blasting a solo home run in the first at-bat of the Rockets' second inning.
    The Lions had three base runners in the third with Sammy Williams hitting a single with one out in the inning. Ian Adams followed with a walk. Bobby Wilson reached safely on a error, but none of the runners rounded the bases for a run.
    In the aforementioned bottom half of the fourth, Fayetteville started the inning with Williams reacing on an infield error. He stole second and took third on a ground out.
    Williams reached home after beating out a throw to home on a fielder's choice attempt.
    For the Rockets. Call singled to score Allen and Boyer. Allen was safe on a fielder's choice and Boyer singled. The Rockets added another run in the sixth with Gambrel scoring.
    The Lions had one hit in the first inning with Nathaniel Miller, and two in the sixth with Cody Tolle and Kyle Carson gaining base hits.
    Tyler Campbell was charged with the loss. Campbell pitched six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, one hit batter and no walks. Campbell struck out four batters.
    Peters earned the win for Fayetteville. He allowed one run (none earned) on six hits and one walk. He struck out five.
    The loss drops the Lions to 4-5 overall, 4-2 in the SHL.
