Shawnee State University History Professor Mark Mirabello, Ph.D., will be appearing on the History Channel in the Ancient Aliens Series that premieres at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Access and Success for Adults (ASA) and “Your Place” for the Adult Learner Program are celebrating their first year at the Adams/Brown Community Action Program (ABCAP) Building in Georgetown and are thankful for the funding made available from United Way of Greater Cincinnati – Eastern area and General Electric’s Community Service Agency to instruct the “Your Place” for the Adult Learner class and to help make a difference for the area residents.

The Greenfield McClain Class of 1986 will be holding their 25th year reunion the weekend of Greenfield’s Homecoming. On Friday, Oct. 14, the class will meet at the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m., then enjoy a bonfire after the game at an alumni home.

Ryan Marler earned his Instrument Rating on his pilot certificate on Sept. 14. With his Instrument Rating, Ryan is now approved by the Federal Aviation Administration to fly aircraft solely by reference to instruments.

In recognition of breast cancer awareness month, the community is invited to an Oct. 11 “Volley for the Cure” match at Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The Lady Patriots will take on Clark State Community College at 6 p.m. in the Patriot Center.

Lynchburg-Clay's Volley for the Cure game will be Thursday, Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m. vs. Fairfield. The school is having a bake sale and raffle to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The contest is administered by the Bill of Rights Institute, a non-profit educational organization in the Washington, D.C. area devoted to educating young people about the Constitution and Founding principles. The 2011-2012 contest is sponsored by the History Channel.

Southern State Community College’s Patri-Tots Learning Centers announce sponsorship of the USDA-funded Child and Adult Care Food Program. Meals are available to all enrolled participants without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability and will be served at no separate charge 226.23(d).

Southern State Community College has released its president’s and dean’s list for academic excellence for Summer Quarter 2011. To be eligible for the president’s list, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a minimum of 12 academic credit hours. Those who achieve the dean’s list are also full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
