Biden-Harris Administration awards grants to HBCUs to diversify the educator and STEM workforce

The U.S. Department of Education announced Monday that it is awarding grants to eight Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) under the Augustus F. Hawkins Centers of Excellence Program (Hawkins) and the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP). The Department is also making an additional award to establish a National Technical Assistance Center to Diversify the Workforce Serving Children with Disabilities.

Alumni will converge on their alma mater when Wilmington College holds the annual fall tradition of Homecoming on Saturday (Sept. 21). The schedule is filled with reunions, award recognition and sports as alumni, families and friends interact with students and the campus community.

SSCC experiences enrollment increase with 2024 fall semester

Southern State Community College is excited to announce a 5.7-percent increase in student enrollment for the 2024 fall semester. Gains of 10.5 percent in College Credit Plus (CCP) enrollment and 0.4-percent increase in non-CCP hours suggest that the College continues to rely heavily on CCP enrollment while holding non-CCP enrollment steady.

Southern State to host Healthcare Simulation Open House and Career Fair Sept. 18

In honor of Healthcare Simulation Week, Southern State will host an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive in Hillsboro. This event is free and open to the community.

Ohio Forestry Association Foundation announces application period for conservation education grant program

The Ohio Forestry Association Foundation will open its grant application window for small-scale projects on Sept. 15. These grants are designed to assist an organization in a conservation education project, with a maximum individual grant amount of $2,500.

US Education Department to open new financial aid form to more applicants

The U.S. Department of Education named the first six organizations to participate in the phased rollout of the 2025-26 form to apply for federal financial aid Wednesday, and opened up the interest form for high schools, school districts and other entities to get involved in its next three testing periods.

Southern State recently combined forces with many local businesses across Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette and Highland counties to host a summer outreach initiative called Patriot Palooza. The event aimed to bring awareness to the many programs and opportunities offered by the College.

The University of Cincinnati Clermont College Art Gallery will present “Reclaiming Your Outside Voice,” a compelling photographic exhibition by Judi Bommarito, as part of the 2024 FotoFocus Biennial backstories. The exhibition will be on display from Oct. 1 – Dec. 13.

A school voucher lawsuit currently in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas will likely make its way before the Ohio Supreme Court eventually — meaning whichever candidates are elected to the state’s high court this fall could end up ruling on this pivotal school funding case.
