There are some solid match-ups on the slate for Friday night basketball in Highland County and the surrounding area, but before we dive into that, there is a lot to look back on from Thursday night. The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs earned their 13th straight win of the season, moving to not only 13-0 overall, but 9-0 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, as they are tied with the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors in Division I of the SHAC, who are 8-0 in the conference. The two teams are set to face each other for the first time Saturday.

This week, there are some big-time games for teams from Highland County, and have you taken a look at the boys basketball standings in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference thus far this season?

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs played their entire roster Thursday night, gaining a road Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory over the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats, 90-12.

For a Wednesday night non-conference game to start the 2019 part of the high school basketball schedule, the McClain Tigers and Zane Trace Pioneers put on an excellent exhibition of basketball where both teams with winning records played an outstanding game.

Instead of doing the usual “year in review” article for the sports section of The Highland County Press this year, it is time for a Top 10 list of the best moments from the year that was 2018. Highland County had coaches win big-time awards, teams reach the state playoffs, teams reach the state final four and individuals who competed at the state level as well.

The time to wrap up the 2018 calendar year of sports is nearing ever so close, as this upcoming Saturday will complete the calendar year of high school athletics, so be on the lookout for a Top 10 list of moments from the 2018 season next week.

The Whiteoak Wildcats split their past two games, as they were defeated on Friday night by Peebles in a 62-39 road loss but came right back the next night to gain a road win by defeating the East Clinton Astros by a 55-44 score in non-conference action.

The regular season continued for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Monday as they battled tough and had a strong opponent in front of them in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game to open the week.

On Friday, Dec. 14, the Whiteoak Wildcats baseball team was honored with the unveiling of their Division IV State Final Four banner to honor their historic 2018 season.
