The Whiteoak Wildcats continued to hold on to the top spot of Division II in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference as they swept the season series against the Ripley Blue Jays with a 5-1 victory Friday night in Hamersville, the home of Flash baseball.

WHS moves to 8-0 in the SHAC (11-5 overall), as they scored all five of their runs in the final three innings, including two two-run innings in the fifth and seventh innings and one run in the sixth.

The pitching win went to Zach Docter, who went the distance. Docter allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks. Docter (2-2) totaled seven strikeouts.

"Zach Docter was the difference (Friday)," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "Just the way he pitched dictates that, not to mention what he did at the plate. He was simply outstanding."

Whiteoak had four batters with two hits each in Luke Taggert, Docter (2-for-2), Gage Carraher and Tyler Williams.

The runs by WHS were plated by Taggert, Docter, Carraher, Williams and Jason Jones. Jones and Jesse Bradds each had one hit for the Wildcats, as Jones hit a double. Also hitting a double was Docter.

RBIs went to Docter (two), Carraher and Bradds.

"We applied pressure on the defense on the base paths as well," Veidt said. "Defensively, we were rock solid, and our kids responded well in a big game situation. We've had a nice week. The kids should be proud of their efforts."

Ripley's Brad Kirschner was charged with the loss. Kirschner went six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks. The RHS ace had 10 strikeouts and hit one batter.

"Anytime you gather seven hits off of a pitcher the caliber of Ripley's, you have to be happy," Veidt said. "We were patient as a team and had a plan at the plate.

"Offensively, we saw 134 pitches. Our top five hitters in the lineup gathered nine hits, and getting the lead-off man on base in four of seven innings was key."

Whiteoak will play again at home as they will face SHAC and Highland County counterpart Fairfield.
