Thursday's Southern Hills Athletic Conference game between the Whiteoak Wildcats and the Manchester Greyhounds was just five innings, but that was all that was needed as WHS won by a 16-3 score for their seventh win in conference play.

The win by WHS (7-0, 10-5) included a pitching victory by Nick Wardlow, who went all five innings on the mound. Wardlow (1-0) allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks. Wardlow struck out five.

Eleven of the 16 runs scored by WHS came with two outs, as the leadoff hitter reached base all five innings.

"Nick gained his first varsity win, and this was his second quality start the year," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "He pitched well."

Both teams scored one run in the first inning, then WHS took control with a three-run second and five-run third. That wasn't the end, as WHS added seven more runs in the fourth for their 16 total runs.

"Fifteen kids saw action (Thursday), which is always a positive, as hard as they all work," Veidt said.

MHS added one run in the fourth and one in the fifth at WHS, as the game was moved from Manchester due to field conditions.

Luke Taggert and Justin Emery each had two hits, as they were both 2-for-3. Taggert collected two runs and two RBIs, while Emery had two runs and a team-high five RBIs.

Zach Docter, Stephen Anderson, Gage Carraher, Jesse Bradds and Tyler Roberts each had one hit, as Anderson was 1-for-1.

Docter added one run and two RBIs, while Carraher scored one run and one RBI. Bradds totaled two runs and one RBI, and Roberts had two runs and two RBIs, including a double.

WHS will play again on Friday as they are scheduled to travel to Ripley at 5 p.m.
