Wildcats fall to Cincinnati Christian

Coming off clinching the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division II title the previous evening, the Whiteoak Wildcats took to the road the next night, nearly bringing home a win, as they were defeated 68-61 by the Cincinnati Christian Cougars Saturday night.

The non-conference road loss didn't come for lack of effort as the visiting Wildcats, the Division II SHAC champions, scored in double figures in each of the four quarters.

WHS trailed 17-10 after the first frame and 34-21 at halftime after CCHS outscored the visitors, 17-11 in the second. This was the second straight win for CCHS.

Whiteoak (12-8) won the second half as they outscored their host, 40-34. The Wildcats won the third, 17-9 and were outscored in the fourth by two points at 25-23.

The Wildcats were led by Doc Seip with a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Tyler Williams followed with 16 points, as he was 8-of-11 from the field.

Luke Taggert totaled 14 points (6-of-7 from the free-throw line), while Gage Carraher totaled five points, including one 3-pointer. Also scoring for WHS were Justin Emery and Blake Trueblood with two points each.

WHS finished 8-of-13 from the free-throw line. CCHS went 19-of-29 from the free-throw line.

Leading CCHS (15-5) in scoring was Ryan Arington with 24 points and six rebounds. David Jeffries followed with 18 points.

Tanner Begley and Kyle Logan each added nine points for the host team, while Terence Hubbard totaled five points against the Wildcats. Also scoring for CCHS was David Perry with two points and Jonathan Burket with one point.

WHS will play again on Tuesday as they travel for a non-conference game at River View. The Wildcats will end their regular season on Friday as they host North Adams in an SHAC contest.

WHS will also play on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in a Division IV SE District Sectional Final game against Highland County and SHAC foe Fairfield at 6:15 p.m. WHS will be the No. 4 seed, and the Lions of FHS will be the No. 5 seed.
