The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats took to the court for the second time this season, but came up short on the scoreboard, falling to the West Union Lady Dragons 60-48 Monday evening at West Union High School.

WHS (0-2) trailed 22-12 at the end of the opening quarter and were down 35-21 at halftime in the non-league matchup between Southern Hills League teams.

Then, in the second half, Whiteoak rallied in the third quarter, cutting the WU advantage to six points, but West Union scored the final four points of the quarter to add to their lead.

WHS cut it to four points on two occasions, but could get no closer.

"We continue to improve, and the girls' effort was great," WHS head coach Mike Cooper said. "It was a fun game."

Senior Jessie Gilliland led the Lady 'Cats in scoring with a career-high 23 points, including 5-of-7 from the three-point line.
Clarissa Johnson followed with a career-high 12 points. Brittany Luman finished with five points.

Amber Gorman and Marissa Bohl each scored four points.

West Union was 11-of-13 from the free-throw line, and the Lady 'Cats were 3-of-11.

The loss sends WHS to an 0-2 overall record. The Lady 'Cats will play their first home game of the season this Thursday when they host Ripley, with JV play starting at 6 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
