Lady 'Cats earn 1st win of season; defeat Symmes Valley

The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats earned their first win of the season Saturday afternoon by defeating the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings, 66-55 at the Wellston Lady Rockets Classic.

WHS was led by sophomore Emma Wardlow with 25 points and five rebounds. Wardlow also added four assists, four steals and made one 3-pointer. She finished 10-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Amber Gorman, a senior, followed with 12 points and two rebounds. Morgan Campbell was the third Lady Wildcat player to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points. The senior added two rebounds and one assist, while also making two 3-pointers.

The Lady 'Cats had four more players chip in on the scoring, including Courtney Cummings with seven points and Emily Stratton with six. Sunnie Lehr added four points, and Jaycie Parr rounded up the scoring with two points.

WHS finished 13-of-20 from the free-throw line and committed 17 turnovers. As a team, they tallied nine steals, nine assists and 24 rebounds.

Whiteoak's game for Monday, Dec. 16 vs. North Adams has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game has been rescheduled for Feb. 5, 2014.

WHS will play again on Thursday, Dec. 19 vs. Eastern Brown.
