    Brian Snowden pays heed to the legend of Grandma Moses, who took up artistic painting later in life. Upon his retirement as a business professor at Wilmington College in 2022, he decided to explore something new. Impressed with abstract art, he decided to give it a try.
  • WC awarded $150K Choose Ohio First Grant
    Wilmington College students entering its STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields of data science, math education, agronomy and health science stand to benefit greatly from a $150,000 Choose Ohio First grant awarded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The grants, for students entering the College in fall 2027, are designed to grow enrollment in these STEM fields over four years.
  • WC occupational therapy program director to facilitate fall prevention workshop
    One in four older adults experiences a fall each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Wilmington College’s Erin Bales will facilitate Stepping On, a free program designed to help senior citizens reduce the risk of injury from falls, on May 28, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Aging Up Community Center, 717 N. Nelson St., in Wilmington.
  • New Wilmington College mural asks, ‘What moves you?’
    Wilmington College President Corey Cockerill looks back to Christmas in 2011 when her sister, Erin Balbier, gave her a domino-shaped object, colorfully hand-painted with a cartoonish robot. That was her first bot — short for robot. Specifically, it was a Bilingual YesBot. Cockerill quickly became intrigued with bots, not just the whimsical figures on the JoyBots, LoveBots, GratitudeBots and PeaceBots, but their intrinsic messages centered on connection, delight and creative courage as represented by BotJoy, the global art movement ushered in by Gary Hirsch, WC’s 2026 Commencement speaker.
  • Wilmington College graduates 224 at 150th Commencement
    Gary Hirsch told the Class of 2026 to become improvisers, since uncertainty in life is inevitable. He offered some sage advice as a career improviser on navigating uncertainty with intention and grace. An artist, author and creative leader, Hirsch presented an interactive keynote address at Saturday, May 9’s Wilmington College’s 150th Commencement titled “Radical Collaboration with the World Around You.”
  • Wynn Alexander elevated to provost at Wilmington College
    Wilmington College’s realignment of its senior leadership structure features J. Wynn Alexander adding provost to his title of vice president for academic affairs. President Corey Cockerill said his new duties began on May 1.

    Representatives from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine met with Wilmington College officials on Wednesday, April 29 to solidify a partnership designed to strengthen the recruitment of students pursuing careers in large animal veterinary medicine.

  • Groundbreaking ceremony planned for WC’s Jenna Parlette Running Center
    Legendary Wilmington College Coach Jerry Scheve designated the construction of the Jenna Parlette Running Center as the centerpiece of his $23 million gift, much of which focuses on the pursuit of athletic excellence at WC. The new indoor track will take a step closer to becoming a reality on April 3, when the College hosts a public groundbreaking ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in the area off Elm Street between Herman Court and Williams Stadium.
  • Renowned Quaker author Phillip Gulley to speak on ‘Hope in Difficult Times’
    Quaker pastor, writer and speaker Phillip Gulley will spend the day at Wilmington College on March 25, the centerpiece of which will be the Office of Campus Ministry’s Quaker Lecture, a community presentation on “Hope in Difficult Times” at 7 p.m. in the McCoy Room of Kelly Center.
  • Harcum Gallery to present Mary Beth Thorngren’s exhibit titled ‘The Sacred and Profane’
    As an artist, Mary Beth Thorngren finds inspiration in the realm of dreams and the subconscious. Her work often features dream imagery in which she transforms fleeting thoughts and emotions into tangible creations. Thorngren specializes in utilizing found objects, “breathing new life” into materials that might otherwise be overlooked.
