The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced their latest individual regional rankings Friday afternoon, and Wilmington Quakers freshman Ryder Pierce was ranked sixth at 197 pounds in Region 4.

Pierce becomes the first Quaker to be regionally ranked by the NWCA since the program was reinstated for the 2018-19 academic year.

Pierce (Springfield, Ohio/Wayne HS) is 4-4 overall this season with three wins by fall and one victory by decision. In the Trine Invitational to start the season, Pierce finished in fifth place. After losing his first match in the tournament, he came back with three straight wins.

He then won in the Quakers first dual of the season with a fall in 1:39 against Baldwin Wallace University’s Dominic Pagan.

The rest of the 197 rankings went as follows: Lorenzo Pellot from Roanoke College, Gavin Layman of Ohio Northern University, Bryce McCloskey from the University of Mount Union, John Santowski from Washington and Lee University and Jamar Christian of Averett University.

The Quakers wrestling squad will be back on the mats for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) dual with the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in New Concord.
