Tigers top Blue Lions in sectional semifinal
GREENFIELD – The McClain boys soccer season will continue as they shutout South Central Ohio League rival Washington 5-0 in the Division II SE District Sectional Semifinal Tuesday evening at McClain Field.
The win allows the Tigers to play another game at home as they will host Zane Trace at 4 p.m. Saturday for the sectional championship.
McClain led after the first half 3-0.
“We came out flat at the start of the first half, but once the guys got warmed up we played a good game,” McClain coach Shawn Jackson said.
In the opening 40 minutes Daniel White scored the first goal to give the Tigers a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Sam Henry followed with his first goal of the game to make the score 2-0. White came back again with his second goal of the sectional contest for the three-goal lead. White’s final goal came near the end of the first half.
Henry finished the game with three goals, scoring two more times in the second half for the five-goal win. Henry’s final two goals were scored in the final part of the second half.
In their final regular season game against London, Henry also netted three goals, giving Henry six goals in his past two games, gaining two hat-tricks.
“Sam (Henry) was an offensive machine for us,” Jackson said. “Daniel had a very good run at it (Tuesday) and put goals away.
“Nick (McNeal) played an excellent game in the middle for us. Steven Barber played a tough game and went after every ball on defense. Now we have to get ready to play Zane Trace.”
The win improves the Tigers to 13-2-1 overall.
Zane Trace defeated Hillsboro 4-0 Tuesday night in their sectional semifinal game.
