Tigers lose close game to Red Raiders

LONDON — The McClain Tigers continue to play close, but not close enough during the 2010-11 season. They fell for the fifth straight time, falling to the London Red Raiders, 48-44, Tuesday in South Central Ohio League play.
The Tigers (0-3, 0-5) scored 11 points in the opening quarter, but allowed 15 by the Red Raiders, trailing by four points after eight minutes.
Each team scored nine points in the second quarter, making the score 24-20 in favor of LHS.
McClain had one of their most productive quarters, in terms of scoring, after halftime by netting 14 points in the third eight minute frame. MHS out-scored LHS in the third by three points at 14-11, cutting the LHS lead to one-point at 35-34.
LHS won the fourth, 13-10, sealing the win.
Scott Balzer led MHS with 11 points, followed by Jared Loftis and Zach Matracia with 10 points each. Combined the trio of double-dight scorers made 13 two-point baskets and five free throws.
Tanner Vanzant finished with nine points, including one 3-pointer. Freshman Thomas Schrader scored his first varsity points, making two buckets for four points.
Overall, MHS made 19 baskets (including the 3-pointer), but were just 5-of-11 from the free-throw line for 45 percent. LHS was 10-of-21 for 48 percent from the line, while making 17 baskets, including four 3-pointers from Jordan Johnson. Johnson led all scorers with a game-high 16 points.
MHS forced LHS into 22 turnovers, while committing 16.
