Matt’s Take: Major League Baseball resumes; Mr. Blister

If you know me or know me through my writing, by now you can probably tell I am a simple man. I enjoy being home, doing things outside, yard work, and local festivals and events.  

However, there is nothing that gets me more excited and out of my “winter slump” than Reds Opening Day. It’s the sign of spring and soon to be summer. The mower will soon be on, my evenings will be in the garage with the Reds on, and all is well and back to normal. No more freezing temperatures, no more stuck inside watching "Grey's Anatomy" (sorry wife -I’ll still watch), and no more cabin fever.  

Reds Opening Day is here this week and this lineup in comparison to last year's Opening Day roster should make you cautiously optimistic-ahh, heck with it – it should make you very optimistic. This roster has enough to win the Central and it’s the first time I’ve said it and truly meant it in years.  

An ice cold beverage, a skyline coney, a party at the Banks, a trip into Holy Grail, a Reds win, and a stop at Chipotle on the way home on Thursday will soon be here. It’s my favorite day of the year and favorite time of the year. Talking baseball with other “ball knowers” at the park is awesome and something I am more than looking forward to on Thursday.  

Opening Day – What to Expect

Reds vs. Red Sox on Thursday, March 26;

The Findlay Market Opening Day Parade will begin at noon;

Jeff Brantley (the Cowboy) will be the grand marshal; 

Bronson Arroyo will throw out the first pitch;

The Honorary Captain is Dave Concepcion;

The Opening Day starter is Andrew Abbott; and

The first pitch is 4:10 p.m.

Mr. Blister

I saved the depressing news for the end. Mr. Blister, Nick Lodolo, has now found himself with another blister and left the game early in Arizona. His health and his finger is a continuing issue year after year.  

With Hunter Greene out already, losing Lodolo for any amount of time would be a major loss. On top of that, Singer has a blister that he was previously dealing with as well. It’s a long season, but having rotational issues already is not ideal before the season starts. Find some pickle juice, and leave your hands in there until next week, Nick, as this team needs you healthy and throwing your best stuff.  

I am now concerned with this rotation, especially if Abbott looks like he has all spring. Let’s hope this doesn’t carry on for the season.
