CIRCLEVILLE – The 2009 season came to an end Monday evening for the McClain Lady Tigers as they fell to the Circleville Lady Tigers 3-0 in the Division II SE District Sectional Semifinals, in Circleville.

Circleville scored all three of their goals in the first half, as the McClain defense played shut out soccer in the final 40 minutes, but their offense couldn’t get anything solid going.

“It was a closer game than what the score indicates,” McClain coach Darrell Upp said. “Circleville is a good team and came into the postseason seeded No. 2 in our sectional.”

Upp said he was proud of the way his team played this season. The Lady Tigers gained three wins, including two South Central Ohio League victories, one of which came at McClain Field.

“I wanted to win this game for the seniors, it would have been nice to get another win,” Upp said. “This wasn’t our best effort. We couldn’t maintain control of the ball. We had several shots, but we didn’t have enough power.”

But the game, and season, came back to the seniors.

“The seniors are going to be missed. They gave a lot of leadership to the underclassmen,” Upp said. “They are the first group to go through the program and they are going to be missed.”

Looking back at the season Upp looked back at what could have been.

“The season as a whole had a lot of games where we lost by one point, but this was a successful season. This was out best season to date and we should have had a better win-loss record. Those games could have gone either way.

“I am just proud of the entire team and the way they represented themselves this season.”

MHS finishes the ’09 season at 3-15 overall. They gained wins over North Adams, London and Washington. Their SCOL record was 2-9.

Seniors this season for the Lady Tigers included: Sarah Elrhanjaoui, Myriah George, Jen Jones, Savanna Brown, Sarah Upp, Katie Wallen and Christy Weller.
