The Lady Indians of Hillsboro defended their home field Tuesday night in their Division I SE District Sectional Semifinal game with a 4-1 winning performance against the Vincent Warren Lady Warriors at Richards Memorial Field.

The win gives Hillsboro an overall record of 11-1-3 overall, as they will now travel to face the Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers this Thursday, in Chillicothe. Chillicothe defeated Athens 2-0.

“We didn’t play that bad of a game, and we got to play a lot of the younger kids,” Hillsboro coach Leslie Molen said. “Thursday’s game will be harder. Chillicothe is a No. 2 seed, but overall I am pleased with the kids.”

On Tuesday, the Lady Indians dominated the first half, scoring three times in the 40 minute half.

Senior Kaelee Sexton helped put the Lady Indians on the board, with what was described as an outstanding cross kick by Molen, as her pass went to senior Shelby Coyle who scored the goal for the 1-0 lead with 35:46 remaining in the half.

A little over seven minutes later the Lady Indians continued to put the pressure on the Lady Warriors when junior Lauren Colliver netted the ball with a 15-yard, pin-point kick into the back of the goal, past the Warrior keeper with 28:10 left in the opening half. The assist was credited to senior Jen Williams.

Senior Paij Shelton assisted in the following goal with Colliver knocking in her second point of the contest at the 8:05 mark of the half to give the Lady Indians a three-goal lead.

It wasn’t long into the second half when Williams scored her goal with an assist from Sexton with 39:16 remaining in regulation.

The lone Vincent Warren goal came with 32:22 to make the score 4-1 on a long distance kick.

Molen said she was impressed with the play of her defense, and with the Lady Indians’ passing on offense.

“Taylor Hauke hustled on defense,” Molen said. “We had good passing in the first half, especially Kaelee’s (Sexton). We have a few things we have to clean up. We were confused a little on defense at times and we can’t have that against a team like Chillicothe.”
