Whiteoak volleyball wins against Felicity; falls to East Clinton, Williamsburg and Goshen

Playing volleyball matches on Monday (Sept. 14) and Wednesday, Sept. 16) the Whiteoak volleyball team went 1-1, as they earned their first victory of the season. Over the weekend (Sept. 19) WHS lost a tri-match to Williamsburg and Goshen at Williamsburg High School. 

Monday’s match, the Lady 'Cats lost to the host East Clinton Lady Astros in three straight sets. 

WHS fell by scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-7. 

The Lady ‘Cats had freshman Harmony Baker total three kills, eight digs, and one block. Freshman Georgia Baucom had three digs and three blocks. Sophomore Emily Brill finished with one ace and three digs. 

Whiteoak senior Chanel Captain totaled four digs. Freshman teammate Hadley Hauke-Simmons totaled four assists, two digs and two blocks. Freshman Madelyn Howard had one kill, one ace, four digs and three blocks. 

Senior Kylee Ruark totaled two aces and one dig. Sophomore Kennadi Storms had three kills and 12 digs. 

Whiteoak won their first match of the season on Wednesday (Sept, 16) at home against Felicity-Franklin in five sets. 

WHS won set two (25-17), set three (25-11) and set five (15-11). Felicity-Franklin won set one (25-17) and set four (25-16). 

In the win, the Lady ‘Cats had Storms finish with three kills, three aces, and 17 digs. Captain totaled one kill, two aces, and 11 digs.

Baker totaled three kills, two aces, and five digs. Brill ended the win with five kills, five aces, two blocks, six digs, and seven assists. Hauke-Simmons totaled one kill, six aces, six digs and nine assists. Howard finished the match with three kills, one ace, one block, and five digs. 

Ruark had five kills, two aces, three blocks, and five digs. Baucom finished the match with one kill, one ace, one block, and five digs. 

On Saturday (Sept. 19) the Lady Wildcats lost a tri-match to Williamsburg and Goshen at Williamsburg High School. 

In the best-of-3 match, Williamsburg defeated Whiteoak in two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-23. 

Against Williamsburg, Whiteoak had 12 team kills from Storms (three), sophomore Aveah Captain (two), Baker (one), Brill (two), Hauke-Simmons (two), Howard (one), and Ruark (one). 

Whiteoak totaled three aces with Aveah Captain finishing with two and Brill (one). There were eight blocks made by the Lady Wildcats as Brill led with two, while teammates Chanel Captain, Aveah Captain, Baker, Hauke-Simmons, Howard, and Ruark each had one. 

Whiteoak also had 42 digs with Storms collecting 18, witth Chanel Captain and Aveah Captain each having five. Brill and Baucom each finished with four digs, while Baker and Hauke-Simmons had two each. Howard and Ruark each finished with one dig. 

Brill led Whiteoak with eight assists, while Howard had two and Hauke-Simmons had one. 

In their match with Goshen, the Lady Warriors defeated Whiteoak in two sets at 25-8 and 25-11. 

WHS had three kills with Hauke-Simmons totaling two and Brill with one. Whiteoak also had five digs with Storms and Baucom each with two, and Hauke-Simmons had one. Brill led WHS with two assists, and teammate Hauke-Simmons had one. 

After matches this past week Whiteoak now stands at 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference. 

Next for WHS is a SHAC match against the Fairfield Lady Lions on Monday, Sept. 21 at WHS with 5:30 JV start.
