Mustangs win at West Union; 3 players reach double figures

Traveling to face Southern Hills Athletic Conference foe West Union Friday, Jan. 9, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs gained a big conference win over the host Dragons, 67-49 at WUHS.
LCHS gained the win as they were tied with the Dragons 16-16 after the first quarter, but had a boost in play by outscoring the Dragons 18-6 in the second frame for a 34-22 score after two complete quarters.
After the halftime break, LCHS won the third quarter at 21-12, and in the fourth it was West Union winning the final frame at 15-12.
The Mustangs had nine players reach the scoring column with Denver Clinton leading the way with 20 points as he made seven two pointers, one 3-pointer and he went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Clinton also had six rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Tanner Roberts totaled 13 points as he made four two-point buckets and was 5-of-6 in his free-throw attempts. Roberts also collected seven rebounds, one assist and had three blocked shots.
Elam Fauast totaled 11 points with three 3-pointers and a two-pointer, plus he grabbed four rebounds and had one assist.
Trevor Niehaus ended the game with nine points with a 3-pointer, two two-point baskets and he was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Niehaus also had eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block.
Quin Wells totaled four points off a basket and two free throws (2-of-2), and he had three rebounds. Teammate Linkin Barnett ended the game with four points (one basket, 2-of-2 FT line), plus he grabbed a rebound.
Scoring two points each were Caden Boone (one rebound, two assists, two steals), Rhalstan Greene and Harley Lewis (one rebound, one assist).
The Mustangs finished the game with 19 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, and they were 14-of-18 from the free-throw line (77.8-percent). LCHS also had team totals that included 31 rebounds (13 offensive), 10 assists, six steals and four blocks, plus they had just nine turnovers for the game.
Next for the Mustangs (2-4, 4-7) is a home SHAC game on Tuesday, Jan. 13 against Highland County foe, the Fairfield Lions (3-2, 6-4).
