HILLSBORO — On Tuesday night the Hillsboro Lady Indians battled the Eastern Lady Warriors, and earned a third straight win to start the 2025 season, but this time there was a no-hitter thrown by senior Camryn Spruell as HHS won by a 9-0 score.

Spruell in her no-hitter was one out away from a perfect game, but even with the one walk, she was spectacular from the circle, finishing with 20 strikeouts in seven innings pitched. In all, she threw 96 pitches, 71 for strikes.

Spruell struck out the first three batters she faced in the first inning, followed by three more strikeouts against three batters in the second. It was another 1-2-3 strikeout inning in the third, and in the fourth Spruell struck out two of the three batters she faced as the first out of the inning was a pop up to short.

It was business as usual in the top of the fifth with Spruell striking out the three batters she faced, and in the sixth it was the same thing as the senior pitcher struck out the side, again facing just three batters.

The no-hitter was completed in the top of the seventh as she struck out the first two batters she faced, then came the lone walk on six pitches. Spruell ended the game with her 20th strikeout of the game.

“Cam did a great job in the circle for us,” HHS head coach Gary Breeden said. “As always, she's a fighter in the circle, and the girls are behind her. Offensively, we started putting things together. It's early in the season, and we're still figuring a few things out.”

There was more than just the excellent pitching for the Lady Indians, as their bats were strong too, finishing with 16 hits on the night.

Chloe Roberts continued her strong start to her senior season by going 4-for-4 at the plate, totaling two runs and two RBI. One of her hits was a first-inning home run to left field for a 1-0 lead.

Four Hillsboro players had two hits each, with Mary Dietrick going 2-of-3 with two runs, one RBI and a walk, and Addley Miller was 2-for-4 with one run.

Isabelle Brunck finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Rhianna Clemons was 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI.

Spruell at the plate finished 1-for-4, Addie Huff was 1-for-4 (a triple) with two runs and one RBI, Madison Dearmon finished 1-for-3 with a walk, and Reagan Clemons was 1-for-4. Leah Vance scored a run as a courtesy runner.

“They all did something throughout the game,” Breeden said of his team on Tuesday. “Miller behind the plate, the Clemons twins come through with timely hits, Addie Huff and Mary Dietrick at the plate came through when we needed them.

“Chloe Roberts started us off with a big shot. Maddie Dearmon and Izzy Brunck, everybody did what they needed to do. When we did use the pinch runner, Leah Vance off the bench, she did exactly what she's supposed to, get around and score.”

Hillsboro (3-0) will play again Thursday, March 27 at home against the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans at 5:30 p.m. at Hillsboro High School.
