Indians lose heartbreaking double-OT game to Jackson
Both teams left everything they had on the court Friday night in a Frontier Athletic Conference battle when the Hillsboro Indians hosted the Jackson Ironmen.
Earlier this year, the Indians won at Jackson on a thrilling 3-pointer by Tate Davis, but the Ironmen returned the favor Friday by defeating Hillsboro on Jan. 12, with the Ironmen winning in double overtime against the host Indians, 58-57.
In the FAC game ,it was the Indians leading 13-11 when the first quarter closed, and after the Ironmen won the second frame at 14-10, it was Jackson leading the Indians, 25-23 at halftime.
Hillsboro scored 12 points in the third and held Jackson close with 10 points, and in the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 45 when each team scored 10 points in the final eight minutes of regulation.
After the first four-minute overtime, each team scored five points for a 50-50 score, but at the end of the second OT the tie was finally broken, as JHS outscored the Indians 8-7 for the one-point win.
Jack Howland led the Indians with 20 points, making four two-point buckets, one 3-pointer and he was 9-of-11 from the free-throw line.
Tate Davis totaled 16 points for Hillsboro, ending the game with two two-point field goals, three 3-pointers and he went 3-of-4 with his free-throws attempts.
Steven Kibler totaled nine points (three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer), Brayden Hunter scored eight points (one two-pointer, one 3-pointer and 3-of-4 FT), and Nic Burns totaled four points (two two-pointers).
HHS finished with 13 turnovers, while the Ironmen had 17 turnovers.
Jackson was led by Boston Campbell with 17 points and Bodhi Woodford with 14 points.
JHS totaled 16 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and they were 11-of-19 from the free-throw line. The Indians totaled 12 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and finished 15-of-19 in their free-throw attempts as a team.
The loss sends HHS to an overall record of 6-5 and 3-3 in the FAC (fourth place). Jackson’s win moves them to 4-3 in the FAC (third place) and 10-4 overall.
Hillsboro is scheduled to play again Wednesday, Jan. 17 on the road at Piketon in a non-conference game.
Jackson is scheduled to play again Tuesday, Jan. 16 at home in a non-conference game vs. Alexander.
