Hillsboro girls tennis earns FAC win over Jackson; drop match to Western Brown

The Hillsboro Lady Indians girls tennis team kept their season going on Thursday and Friday evenings as they won in Frontier Athletic Conference action over Jackson, and the next day they fell in a non-conference contest versus Western Brown.
On Thursday (Aug. 13) the Lady Indians won 4-1 over conference rival Jackson as they defeated the Ironladies in all three singles matches, plus also having the win in second doubles.
HHS began Thursday's home match at the Hillsboro High School tennis courts with a first singles victory by senior Adalyn Gaines by scores of 6-0, 6-0 against sophomore Sami Elliott.
The Lady Indians continued with a second singles victory over JHS with junior Taylor-Ann Scruggs defeating senior Emma Butts of Jackson with scores of 6-0, 6-2.
Hillsboro won their third singles match as sophomore Breanna Anderson gained the victory over senior Vera Wright at 6-2, 6-1.
The second doubles win saw sophomore Lilah Hardy and junior Kamrie Lee of HHS defeat seniors Emma Thorne and KJ Worsham by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
HHS lost their first singles match as senior Ciara Woods and sophomore Kaylin Branscom lost to senior Callie Newkirk and sophomore Tenley Carter at 4-6, 3-6.
In JV action, Hillsboro won a doubles match as Adalynn West and Charlotte Walch (both freshmen) won against Jackson at 8-5, 4-2.
Hillsboro in another JV contest saw the freshmen team of Brynn Stanley and K’Nasia Leeper win at 4-3.
The following evening on Friday, Aug. 14, the Hillsboro squad lost all five matches to the host Western Brown Lady Broncos with WBHS winning 5-0.
Gaines fell to senior Jasmine Ashbrook by forfeit in first singles as the first set reached a score of 2-3. Scruggs fell in second singles at 1-6, 2-6 to senior Aubrey Abbinante. Anderson lost in third singles to senior Eve Wylie at 0-6, 0-6.
First doubles was Hardy and Lee falling to sophomore Kimberly Harmon and sophomore Olivia West at 0-6, 2-6. The second doubles match saw Woods and Branscom fall to senior Annaleigh Richardson and sophomore Shelby Ellington at 3-6, 0-6.
HHS is now 2-0 in the FAC and 3-2 overall.
Next for the Lady Indians is an away non-conference match in Ross County on Monday, Aug. 17 against the Unioto Lady Shermans at 4 p.m. HHS will play at home on Tuesday, Aug. 18 in an FAC match against the Washington Lady Blue Lions at 4 p.m. On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Lady Indians are scheduled to host Miami Trace in another FAC contest at 4 p.m.
