Hillsboro completes perfect FAC season; defeats McClain in 5 innings

In a game that began on a Monday (May 1) in pouring rain, then ended on a Friday with spring weather, the Hillsboro Lady Indians traveled twice to Greenfield, and on May 5 left with a Frontier Athletic Conference win over the host McClain Lady Tigers, 16-3.
HHS clinched their third straight perfect FAC season with the win, as they are 30-0 in the conference the past three seasons with three consecutive championships.
In the Monday portion of the game, HHS scored 11 runs in the top of the first for an 11-0 lead.
The top of the third started on Monday and was delayed until Friday, where Hillsboro added four runs. They went on to score another run in the fourth inning.
Hillsboro had three players with three hits each, and they were Camryn Spruell (3-for-3, three runs, two doubles, two RBI and walk), Addie Huff (3-for-4, one run, a double, a steal, three RBI) and Hannah Burton (3-for-4, two runs, a double, three RBI).
The Lady Indians had Kinsey Gilliland go 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple, a home run, four RBI and a walk.
Finishing with one hit each for HHS were Eowyn Brown (two runs), Isabelle Brunck (two runs, one RBI, one walk), Chloe Roberts (one walk), Mylea Fridley (one run, one RBI) and Rhianna Clemons (one RBI). Halle Reveal scored a run for the Lady Indians, plus she added one RBI and a walk.
MHS scored two runs in the second inning on Monday and a run in the fourth on Friday. For the game, the Lady Tigers totaled two hits and committed two errors.
The Lady Tigers’ hits were off the bats of Harley Peabody (1-for-2, a walk and one RBI) and Gracie Bowers (1-for-1, one run, one RBI).
Hillsboro’s Spruell was the winning pitcher, pitching all five innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits and eight walks. She finished with 11 strikeouts in the two-day delayed game.
The win moved HHS to 19-2 overall on the season.
Both teams will face each other again in the Division II SE District Sectional Finals on Wednesday, May 10 at Alice Cassner Field in Hillsboro at 5 p.m.
