McClain senior Ethan Eakins sets new school record

In 1966, McClain High School junior Dean Waddell, a member of the school’s swim team, set a record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.60.

That record has stood the test of time for 60 years until Tuesday, Jan. 20, when MHS senior Ethan Eakins smashed it, clocking in at 1:00:50.

Waddell, a Greenfield resident, was aware Eakins was breathing down the neck of his record. He said it was time to beat it.

Eakins said the experience was “surreal.”

Congratulations to the new record-holder! Eakins is the son of Eliza and Jake Pearce-Dietrich and Josh Eakins.
