GREENFIELD — It was a tough end to the regular season for the McClain varsity volleyball team after a straight set loss to non-conference foe Westfall on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

After losing by double-digit scores 25-15 and 25-13 in the first two sets, the McClain girls fought back in game three and made the score at lot more competitive before losing 25-17.

It was not what McClain’s first-year head coach Cierra Bolender wanted to see from her youthful team before team before starting tournament play on Monday, Oct. 13.

“This was hard to take especially when I felt like our last two days of practice looked really good,” Bolender said. “I thought we were really solid in all the area’s we worked on, so coming into this match tonight I was very excited to try some different things before we start tournament play.

“But it just wasn’t there for us tonight, the only good thing now is it’s the start of a new season and hopefully we’ll have three good days of practice before we play at Vinton County on Monday.

“Tonight, I thought Brynlee Karnes had some really good swings for us in the front row but they made some great digs on a lot of our stuff.”

Bolender continued to talk about her team and players.

“Zoie Everhart who is one of our seniors played very well too, in the back line and was solid defensively,” she said. “We got some good serves from Shelby Wise and Molly McCure and I think both of them had aces in the match and Adalynn Snyder played well up front and led us in kills tonight.

“I really think we have a chance Monday if we play up to our potential.”
