Lady Tigers gain wins in recent games; record 13th consecutive victory

On Saturday, Jan. 10, the McClain Lady Tigers defeated the host Chillicothe Cavaliers 62-21 in Frontier Athletic Conference play.
The win at Chillicothe High School saw the Lady Tigers lead 19-6 after the first quarter, and following a 14-0 second quarter, McClain led 33-6.
In the second half, MHS outscored the Lady Cavaliers 22-7, then with the game in hand, it was MHS with seven points in the fourth frame and Chillicothe had an eight-point final frame.
Paisley Pryor led McClain with 26 points, as the junior made nine two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and she was 2-of-5 from the free-throw line. She also had a double-double with 13 rebounds (five offensive), four assists and three steals.
Larah Henson totaled 15 points with three two-point buckets, two 3-pointers and she went 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. Henson also had six rebounds and two steals.
Brie Cummins finished with nine points with one two-pointer, two 3-pointers, and she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Cummins also had three rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Leah Lovett ended the game with five points off one two-pointer and a 3-of-4 performance from the FT-line. Lovett also collected four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Lady Tigers also had three points from Emma Posey (a 3-pointer), as she also had one rebound. Allie Burgess totaled two points with a basket, plus she added six rebounds and two steals. Brylee Douglas ended the game with two points off a basket, and she had one rebound. Brooklyn Bolender finished with one rebound, and Becca Bergstrom ended the game with four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Team totals for the Lady Tigers were 16 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers, and they were 9-of-19 from the free-throw line. MHS also collected 39 rebounds (21 offensive), 16 assists and 15 steals.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14 in Washington Court House, the McClain Lady Tigers defeated the Washington Lady Blue Lions, 34-31 in a closely contested game at Washington High School.
The Lady Blue Lions led 7-6 after the first quarter, then following a 16-11 second frame led by Washington, it was McClain trailing 23-17 at halftime.
MHS rebounded in the third frame with a 10-2 third quarter, then MHS gained the win with a 7-6 fourth quarter for the three-point victory.
McClain’s leading scorer was Paisley Pryor with 12 points, followed by Leah Lovett with eight points and Larah Henson ended the game with six points.
MHS also had three points from Becca Bergstrom (a 3-pointer), three points from Allie Burgess (a 3-pointer) and two points by Brie Cummins.
From the free-throw line, the Lady Tigers were 4-of-6, while Washington was 3-of-6 in their free throw attempts.
Washington was led by Peyton Hughes with nine points, while Callee Ellars had eight points.

On Saturday, Jan. 17 the McClain Lady Tigers gained a non-conference win over the host Waverly Lady Tigers by a 53-44 score at Waverly High School.
MHS held a lead of 11-10 in the first quarter, followed by the score being tied at 21 after Waverly won the second quarter at 11-10.
The third quarter saw the Lady Tigers win the third frame at 17-14, and in the fourth quarter it was McClain scoring 15 points and Waverly having a nine-point quarter.
McClain was led by Paisley Pryor with 21 points, followed by Leah Lovett with 17 points, Larah Henson scoring nine points and McKenzie West with six points.
The wins by McClain now leave them with an overall record of 13-1 — 13 consecutive wins — as they have a 7-0 record in the FAC standings. Waverly moves to 11-6 overall.
Next for the Lady Tigers is a home non-conference game against the Piketon Redstreaks (11-3) at McClain Gym.
