Lady Lions start season with 1-1 record

The 2024 season for the Fairfield Lady Lions softball program saw them open the season with a road loss to the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans, and they returned Tuesday with a win at home against the Peebles Lady Indians in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action.
On Monday against Notre Dame — a regional qualifier a season ago — the Lady Lions were held to two hits in the 8-1 loss at NDHS.
FHS had hits off the bats of Katelyn Chambliss and Caitlyn Quickle, and the lone run was scored by Sydney Hooper in the top of the fourth inning with Quickle gaining the RBI with a double.
Notre Dame scored one run in the bottom of the first, followed with a four-run third and three final runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. In all, the Lady Titans totaled nine hits.
FHS committed four errors, and Notre Dame had five errors.
In the circle, Quickle pitched four innings, allowing eight runs (two earned) on six hits, and she struck out five batters in her return to the circle after missing all of the 2023 season due to injury.
Chambliss pitched two innings, allowing two hits and no runs.
On Tuesday (March 26), the Lady Lions rebounded with a huge 10-0 win in five innings against the Peebles Lady Indians at FHS.
Fairfield scored two runs in the bottom of the second, followed by two consecutive one-run innings, and in the fifth Fairfield scored six runs to complete the run-rule victory. Peebles had one hit and committed five errors in the game, while Fairfield finished with 10 hits and no errors.
Alyssa Bales was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double, while Rilee Quickle went 2-for-3 with one run. Emmi Vance finished 2-for-3 with three runs, one RBI and a triple.
Having one hit each for the Lady Lions were Addison Bales (a triple), Chambliss (one run, four RBI), Jobey Hattan (one run, one RBI) and Carly Sanders (one run). Caitlyn Quickle scored one run and walked once.
In the circle, Caitlyn Quickle pitched five innings, and in the shutout she allowed no runs on one hit and three walks. Quickle finished with nine strikeouts.
FHS now stands at 1-1 overall and are scheduled to face the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs on Thursday, March 28 at 5 p.m. at LCHS.
