David Taylor, husband of Alice Taylor, recently graduated from the Hair Experts Barber School, 4390 Karl Road, Columbus, Ohio. The Hair Experts Barber School is a nationally accredited school and is affiliated with Ohio's largest cosmetology school, Ohio State School of Cosmetology, with five locations in central Ohio.

The 11th annual National Project Linus Blanket Day will be held on Feb. 20 at the Sardinia Church of Christ, 7130 Bachman Drive, Sardinia.

Remember what they say about Ohio weather: If you don’t like the weather today, just wait because it is probably going to change tomorrow! While the weather may not have changed quite that quickly, the bitter cold and frozen ground of a couple of weeks ago has been replaced by rain and mud. If you don’t like the current conditions, don’t complain too loudly as they will probably change in short order!

The Marshall Community Ladies Group held their annual Christmas dinner and party on Friday, Dec. 18. After the dinner meal and door prizes, the evening entertainment was provided by the talented singing Grover family.

The Sardinia-Mowrystown Lions Club will co-sponsor a no-limit Texas Hold'em Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Washington Township Park Building (formerly the Lions Park Club House) located at 7731 Tri-County Highway, Sardinia.

 

As much as I hate to admit it, I am getting older. Besides some of the obvious concessions to age, one of the obvious changes in attitudes that I have as I have grown older is my negative opinion of winter. I don’t believe that too many people like the bitter cold temperatures that we have been experiencing this month and the resulting problems, such as vehicles and tractors not starting, frozen water pipes, and high heating bills. I also fully understand why those folks who have the ability to relocate south for the winter do so.

The Highland County Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited recently donated money to the farmers and hunters feeding hunger program to pay processing for donated deer.

In observance of February as Heart Month and to assist women in the
community with knowing their heart risks and learning ways to have a
healthier heart, Adena Medical Center will host a Women’s Heart Smart
Screening on Friday, February 12, at the Adena Sleep Center, located in the
Adena Health Pavilion on the campus of Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe.

    We wish everyone a happy and healthy 2010. Though winter is here and “the weather outside is frightful,” it’s warm and bright at the Center, so come on in and enjoy the many activities, good food, fun and fellowship.

Calling his mission “a publicity stunt for God,” 38-year-old Daniel Johnson said he is hiking from Maine to California to spread the Gospel.

Each year, older teens throughout the county receive college scholarships through the Highland County 4-H program. Current 4-H members, who are graduating seniors, or alumni of the Highland County 4-H Program, are eligible to apply for the scholarships. The 2010 scholarship applications are due to the OSU Extension office by January 22. Possible scholarships include: the 4-H Endowment scholarships, J. Howard & Josephine S. Fettro, Geraldine Roush Hudson, Darrell & Jane Tissot, William M. & Darlene Aldridge, Robert A. and Dorothy M. Hodson, the Five Points Implement Company 4-H scholarships, and the Ohio 4-H Foundation scholarships.
