Volunteers needed for county-wide litter pickup campaign

Highland County Recycling & Litter Prevention is announcing that Highland County has received grant funds from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention, to conduct a county-wide litter awareness campaign during the months of March, April and May. If you are involved in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, school clubs, civic groups, or any other group (children or adults), your help is needed. Highland County Recycling encourages groups to sign up to do a litter pick-up of any public area in Highland County. It can be your school grounds, ball fields, playgrounds, parks, city and village streets, roads, etc. You select the area and date, and Highland County Recycling will provide trash bags, vests, and any other supplies needed for the cleanup. Highland County Recycling also needs volunteers for the Rocky Fork Lake cleanup, which will be held in April.

"As we head into spring and all the outdoor activities that come with it, let's keep in mind that we all have a responsibility to keep our world litter-free," Highland County Recycling Outreach Specialist Sandra White said. "Litter is a costly problem; highway departments spend millions of tax dollars and many hours annually picking up litter.

"Whether it be at the lake, the park, at the fair, at your vacation spot, or just at home, remember to set an example for others, especially children, by not littering."
