Highland and surrounding counties now have low cost spay/neuter availability.
The UCAN Clinic out of Cincinnati, in conjunction with Academy Pet Hospital, Hillsboro, is offering a transport van free to the public on the third Wednesday/Thursday of each month.
The cost to spay/neuter a cat is $35. The cost to spay a dog is $75; to neuter a dog is $65.
All animals are required to receive a rabies shot at the time of surgery if they have not had a rabies within the past year. Cost for a rabies shot is $10. (Proof of rabies is required; paper certification, not a collar tag.)
Check-in time on Wednesdays is 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. The animals return on Thursdays between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Location is Academy Pet Hospital, directly across the street from Frisch's in Hillsboro.
Appointments are required on the van; prepayment is also required in form of a money order or cashier's check. Forms are available at Academy Pet Hospital, Colonial Animal Hospital, and Hillsboro Library.
