Senior Center plans Christmas Day celebration
One of our great blessings is to share the joy of Christmas at our annual Christmas Day dinner. The center will be open Friday, Dec. 25 from noon-2:00 p.m. for food and fellowship. All center members, their families and their guests are welcome. We will provide meat, potatoes, green beans, beverages and table service. Please bring a covered dish (salad, vegetable or dessert) to share. Each family will also receive a fruit basket, sponsored by Heskett Insurance and Turner & Son Funeral Home.
Reservations are requested so that we’ll know how much food to prepare. Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the meal or deliver meals to homebound seniors. Please call us at 393-4745 to make your reservations or to volunteer.
This is also the time of year when many members and supporters choose to make a tax deductible monetary donation to the center. These gifts help us to offer the many programs and services we provide. We have a donation box by the Christmas tree for this purpose, or you may mail donations to the center at 185 Muntz Street, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
Are you ready for snowy roadways?
Although this autumn has been unusually warm, severe winter weather is just around the corner. It is time to take winter safety precautions for your car is before the snow falls. That way you won’t be caught unprepared when the white stuff hits.
• Flush and fill the radiator with the proper antifreeze and water combination.
• Make sure your car is running properly and the engine is tuned. Cold weather reduces performance.
• Keep the gas tank full. This helps to avoid moisture buildup and fuel-line freezing.
• Replace the windshield wiper blades and keep the washer reservoir filled with fluid made especially for windshield washers.
Winter safety items to carry in your car, especially on trips out of town, include: ice scraper; shovel; bag of sand or cat litter; warm clothes, including boots and gloves; plenty of drinking water and energy snacks; flashlight with extra battery; and additional antifreeze.
Consider joining an automobile club for emergency road service and have a cell phone available for additional security and, most importantly, drive safely.[[In-content Ad]]
