New Petersburg club hosts August meeting

Ruth Ann Watts was hostess for the August meeting of the New Petersburg Social Civic Club.
Sixteen members answered roll call by bringing a piece of fruit for a fruit basket to be raffled off.
Secretary Cora Hamilton read the minutes of the last meeting, and treasurer Vicki Duff gave the treasurer's report. A thank-you note was read from Malinda Wells. A menu was selected for the September anniversary dinner.
Janet Campbell and Verla Hodson had the program. Guest speaker Sergeant Donald Barrera from the Highland County Sheriff's Office gave an informative talk on the calls they received. In July, they had 55 calls for theft, breaking and entering, arson, drugs, assault, burglary and domestic violence. He also gave information on starting a neighborhood watch. A question-and-answer session followed.
The contest by Hamilton was won by Mary Ann Larkin. The fruit basket raffle was won by Wanda Green. Secret sister gifts were received by Hodson, Bea Mustard, Chris Tolbert, Debbie Robinson and Phyllis Miller. The hostess gift was won by Anna Lou Lucas.
Members in attendance not mentioned above were Janet Lawwell and Patty Detty.
