The Roades-Allen-Rhoades reunion was held Aug. 2, 2009 at the Lynchburg Fire Department’s Banquet Room, with a great turnout by the Roades and the Allens, including:
• Jerry Stewart and sister, Beverly Davies, daughter of Herbert Roads and Jessie, who died in 2000. The daughter has carried on with the help of relatives Wayne Kennedy of San Carlos, Calif., whose great-grandmother lived in Salem Township. The house she was born in was a log house now standing in Pioneer Village in Caesar Creek.
• George W. Roades and wife, Nancy Jane (Wallace) Roades. Their family grew up in the log house when the house was in Salem Township.
• Elmer Kennedy lived in Chicago and raised his family, but he kept in touch with the Roades families in Clay and Salem Townships. Elmer was responsible for the reunion in the 1920-1930s; later, as World War II started, the reunions ended for a few years. In those years, Elmer sent postcards with a two-cent stamp and Jerry Pruitt has postcards sent to his mother, Roby (Roades) Pruitt, dated 1930. The reunion was held at Diehl Park in Mowrystown. Now, Wayne Kennedy and his wife are carrying on with the help of the reunion, which is greatly appreciated.
• Beverly (Roades) and husband Carl Frilling from Albuquerque, New Mexico, sent money to furnish a dish for the dinner. Lynda (Roades) Howel and her husband, Stan, organized the genealogy, which has been 10 to 20 ft. with the families’ names on it and hopes every year the visitors supply the names of these families.
Lynda and Stan are great for the genealogy of the Roades and Allen families. Lynda works for the government and was sent to hold an office in Baghdad’s green zone for two years, then was sent to Zambia, Africa and worked for two presidents there.
Zambian presidents serve until their death, so she had to help a new president. Lynda will be going to Kabul, Afghanistan, next; she and her husband are coming to Ohio to visit their parents and families.
The Howels have a home in Alexandria, Virginia. Stan Howel has a job with the government also and keeps a home for Lynda when she gets time off of her job.
Beverly and Lynda are the daughters of Floyd Roades and wife, Delores (Wilkin) Roades.[[In-content Ad]]
