Lynchburg is busy preparing for its annual Village Christmas. This marks the 17th year for the event, which is held the second weekend in December. Many village residents open their homes to the public to offer such diverse items as secret family recipe baked goods to arts and craft items made within the village.
This year's event is being chaired by Bill McTague. He and his wife Angie are owners of the Lynchburg Antique Mall. McTague credits the success of the event to the homes and shops and local businesses who support this event, such as the Homebuilders Association of Lynchburg who has graciously donated a new color TV to be given away as a grand prize for the raffle.
"Some lucky person will win this TV," McTague says.
In an effort to get people to visit all the shops and homes, each person may fill out one raffle ticket at each home or shop. For instance, if there are 20 participating homes and shops and a person visits all 20, he or she will have 20 chances to win the color TV.
This year, the event will be offering free carriage rides for all. This new attraction comes from Dianne Roush of Dianne's Country Flowers, a participant in this year's event. Roush went to local businesses asking for donations and was surprised by the outpouring support from Higgins Supply, Fifth Third Bank of Lynchburg and Hillsboro, Tom Pitzer Trucking, Davis-Turner Funeral Home, Liberty Savings Bank, Terry's Grocery, and Bull's Eye Printing. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and participants for helping make the 17th Annual Village Christmas a success.
