Leesburg Luminaria scheduled for Dec. 14

Area citizens, make sure you do not miss the annual Leesburg Luminaria that will take place Sunday evening, Dec. 14, 5:30-7 p.m. in the village. Important times: Crowning of the Royal Sixth Grade Court – 5:45 in the library. Enjoy a soup supper along with beef and noodles in the life squad building.
The Leesburg Festival Committee comprise the cooking crew and will appreciate a free will donation that helps with festival expenses. Greeting visitors at the Life Squad building will also be jolly ole Santa who will welcome the little ones.
Throughout the evening, visitors will experience the luminaries, which are burning candles in sandbags, throughout the village and will find many businesses open with tantalizing treats. Also, tractors and wagons will take visitors around the village to enjoy the lighted night.
At the close, a worship service will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Leesburg Friends Church.
The Lions Club puts on the festive occasion. Luminaria kits are available from Saucy Sisters for $7 which includes 20 candles and 20 bags. Before putting them out, sand can be obtained from the parking lot by the Leesburg Village Office. Participants just need to bring a bucket to hold the sand and then make the luminarias and light the candles that evening before 5:30.
The money raised by the luminaria sales helps the Lions Club with its mission of providing sight for many – local, and world-wide.
A unique occasion in Leesburg, this Luminaria is known as a seasonal delight. Young men with a passion for encouraging its continuation need to consider a membership in the Leesburg Lions Club. Also, anyone who is a parent of Fairfield elementary students under 6th grade might realize the benefit of attending. Each year the 6th grade students write an essay of “What the Luminaria Means to Me.” A child would have much more interest in the assignment if he or she had been involved with the occasion in former years. Those essay winners for 2025 will be crowned in the library.
