The Hillsboro Garden Club finished the Holiday Season with a tremendous floral rush. The theme "Homecoming Holiday" for the Hillsboro December Parade found a first-place float by Hillsboro Garden Club featuring real life North Carolina homecomers, Kyla and Ashton Hook, with Grandma Sharon Mills. Going to Grandma's was HGC's accent on the parade. Others in the parade action were: crock-stirring grannies Gloria Roush and Rose Marie Cowdrey, hunter meat provider Larry Moore, and pie makers Dena and Chyanne Benner, Arlene Huiet, Nancy Sonner, Pat Lawrence, Jackie and Monica Cowdrey. Trailer base and truck provide by Jim Benner. Audience supporters with filming and other aid chores were: Jennifer West, Mary Smith, Leone Gabriel, and Francis Larkin.

The December Christmas Party, held at the Ponderosa Party House on Dec. 7, was first enjoyed by hostess prepared appetizers: burrito wrapped pinwheels, BBQ baby wieners, lemon cubes, cheese ball and crackers, frosted cranberries, red punch and hot chocolate. Larry Moore and Nancy Baldwin hosted the evening with favors by Judy Moore of sparkled reindeer on faux greenery glitzing the evening. Door prize of a varigated large poinsetta, Pickett Run Farms Cynthiana Road, was won by Jackie Cowdrey, and one was presented to President Nancy Baldwin by Larry Moore. Socializing and enjoyment of the atmosphere preceded the meal. Grace was given by Nancy Baldwin, then a grand buffet prepared by Andrea Holt and Ponderosa staff was presented.

Fireplace roaring gave the room the best atmosphere for the Dirty Santa/Trading Presents game. Prior to the opening of the presents, judging took place with the following placements: Prettiest by Beryl Gruelle (red paper with red/green/white bow), Most Creative by Sharon Mills (Gingerbread Boys mounted on Greenery wreath with foot scraper sized welcome sign), Most Original by Juanita Carson (Holiday Village Scene with Houses/Snow, Trees--roof lids opened to candy feast). Prizes given were sparkle dish towel wrapped garden rock with crystal butterfly and a greeting as welcome. The most revered/traded gift was a large plush snowman with a green neckscarf. The snowman finally found his way home to Cindy Johnson's house. Others attending were: guest Darlene Ervin, Dianna Baker, Ed Davis, Louise Sprinkle, Willie Gruelle, Jennifer West, Mary Smith, Leone Gabriel, Arlene Hueit, Pat and Larry Lawrence, Nancy Sonner, Ruth Anna Duff, Dena and Jim Benner, and Rose Marie and Monica Cowdrey.

The next monthly meeting will be March 22 with Gloria Wright in charge of a program on photography. The floral hall at the Highland County Fairgrounds will host the evening at 7 p.m. All interested floral lovers are welcomed. Contact Nancy Sonner 393-1231, Rose Marie Cowdrey 466-2317, or Ruth Anna Duff 981-2727 for specifics.
