Highland Soil and Water Conservation District holds annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Highland SWCD was held on Oct. 13 at the Hi-TEC in Hillsboro.

During the meeting several awards were presented, a successful silent auction was held and the election of supervisors took place.

Ken Alcorn took home top honors at this years’ Annual Meeting by being named the 2011 Cooperator of the year by the Highland SWCD supervisors and staff.

Alcorn was selected due to his excellent cooperation with the Highland SWCD and the various conservation practices installed throughout his operation.

Some of the practices installed include: over 4,000’ of fence, a heavy use areas with an access road, 2 spring developments, and 1,000’ of pipeline.

Alcorn is providing an outstanding example of how to incorporate conservation practices that will contribute to an environmentally and economically sound farm no matter the size.

The election of Supervisors for the Board of the Highland Soil & Water Conservation District was also held during the Annual Meeting. There were three candidates running this year for two positions available for a three-year term beginning January 2012.

The candidates on the ballot were Jeff Boike, Nathan Brown and Jeff Duncan. When the election results were tallied, Jeff Boike and Jeff Duncan were re-elected for another term. Other members of the Highland SWCD Board of Supervisors include Jim Carr, Kyle Mustard and Larry Shannon.
