There are big things happening at the Highland County Senior Center. Special fundraisers and activities are scheduled for October, November and December. All are welcome to attend the following events:
    • Thursday, Oct. 6, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.: Annual one-day flea market. We need donations of all kinds of items, except clothing. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. A donation of pie or cake would be appreciated. Table rentals cost $10 per person for members or $15 for
nonmembers. Any assistance in preparing for the flea market will be appreciated. Setup will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
    • Sunday, Oct. 9, 2-4 p.m.: The center will be celebrating with a Grand Open House to observe the renovation and beautification of the center. Public officials, including county commissioners, news media, mayors, representatives, senators and community leaders, have been invited to attend. The center’s Sunshine Band and Trail Blazers will provide background music. Members of the Board of Directors will make comments. The event will be a great opportunity to show your appreciation of the center and what it means to you. The open house is standing room only. Punch and cookies will be served. We will have a sign-in chart for members wishing to donate cookies.
    • Wednesday, Oct. 12, 11:30 a.m.: Cooking Show. Bring your favorite dishes (hot or cold), salads or desserts. The entry fee is $2 per person. There will be prizes for each category. After judging and prizes awarded, we will have a dinner and will enjoy all of the delicious food. Anyone attending who does not bring a dish to enter the contest will be charged $2. This event is a fundraiser for the center.
    • Monday, Oct. 17 - Saturday, Oct. 22: Coin and Gold Show. The event will be held 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. during the week and 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.[[In-content Ad]]
