HDH recognizes accomplishments of two volunteers

“Caring. Close to Home” is a fitting tagline for Highland District Hospital. It seems just as fitting for the two volunteers who have chalked up 1,000 hours in the Diabetes and You Center.
William “Bill” Proctor, a one-year volunteer, states that his first contact with the Diabetes and You program began when he attended an educational class. He said that he wanted to become more aware of how to manage the diseas, and gain as much information as he could, because his wife is a diabetic. After attending a few classes, first by himself, then with his wife, he decided that he wanted to help others by volunteering his time at the Diabetes and You Center. Bill’s duties include registering patients and setting up patient appointments. He states he likes working with the educators and being of assistance to the patients. Bill retired from Western Hills Honda and Motorcycle Shop in Cincinnati and has been a resident of Allensburg for 14 years.
Karen Smith, a four-year volunteer, has also accumulated 1,000 hours of volunteer service to the Diabetes and You program. Karen performs clerical, computer, and receptionist tasks. She stated that what she likes best about being a volunteer is working with the patients and HDH employees. Karen began her career in healthcare at Highland District Hospital, where she was a Radiology Technician for four years, then a Radiation Therapist at Clinton Memorial Hospital, where she retired after 24 years. Karen has been a resident of Hillsboro for over 30 years.
Both Bill and Karen are volunteers who have been committed to the mission of caring through her service to HDH as a volunteer. Their willingness to serve is invaluable to Highland District Hospital, and the lives they touch through volunteering. Congratulations to Bill and Karen, we’re proud you are on the HDH team.
