The Highland District Hospital Foundation invites the public to attend its annual hospital gala fund-raiser. This year’s event, the Black and White Gala, will be held Saturday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge.
Hors d’oeuvres and a dinner buffet will be provided by Shoelaces Catering of New Vienna. Music will be provided by Fanatics and Traitors, a self-described “folk/indie/minimalist” band with members from southern Ohio and northern Kentucky. Both silent and live auctions will be held during the gala, with a
variety of “really good” items, said Foundation spokesperson Pam Limes.
The auction, which Limes said has been a popular sell in the past, includes an Ohio State University football season ticket pass for the 2010-11 season, with excellent seats in the A-deck almost on the 50-yard line.
There are several other OSU items being sold, including a signed print from the Buckeyes’ national championship season in 2002.
Other sports items include four tickets to Cincinnati Bengals football games, including one with a parking pass.
Many other items will also be available for auction, including jewelry; a weekend trip to French Lick, Indiana; an original painting by local artist Sandy Pence; a basket of homemade food from Farmhouse Catering; and handmade antique quilts.
“In order to show our appreciation to the people who come, we also will have free giveaways,” said Limes. These door prizes include wine, money, and gift cards.
A variety of games and activities are planned, and “celebrities” – well-known local businesspeople – have volunteered to serve as waiters for the event.
According to Limes, an executive assistant at Highland District Hospital who works with the foundation, this year’s gala will be raising funds for the 2010 health fair, a free annual service from the hospital. This is the third year that the foundation will be sponsoring the event.
Limes said that the health fair provides free screenings, such as blood work, to people in the community, making it a great option for people who normally would not be able to pay for such services. More than 1,000 people participated in this year’s event.
“It’s a wonderful thing for the community,” said Limes.
If enough money is raised, Limes said the foundation plans to give additional funds to assist the maternity department with the replacement of their security system.
Tickets are $50 per person and are available through the Davis Law Office, located at 111 Governor Foraker Place. The law office can be reached at 393-4000, or you may call the foundation office at 393-6101.
Limes said that buying tickets in advance is preferred, but they will be available on the night of the event.[[In-content Ad]]
