Emblem Club collects canned goods

The Hillsboro Emblem Club held their annual Memorial Service on November 9, 2010 at 7:10 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge. Departed member Margaret Ludwick’s name was entered in the Memorial. There were 13 members who were present for the meeting that followed. ER Dan Pearce was in attendance updating the club on Elks news.
Committee reports were given. Americanism chairman, Jan Vosper read a short article on Veteran’s Day and an article from the newspaper concerning the new Veteran’s Memorial at the Highland County Courthouse.
Donations were given to the Supreme Disaster Fund, Highland County Children’s Services, VA home in Georgetown and the Veteran’s Memorial Fund. A donation will also be send to the Ohio State Association of Emblem Clubs and the W. Virginia Club Scholarship Fund in memory of Dean Hill.
Members brought in 128 canned goods and will be delivered to Samaritan Outreach Services for their food pantry. Members were reminded to bring stuffed animals or toys to the December meeting for the Highland District Hospital Surgery Dept. New and used DVDs will be collected and taken to the State Association meeting in January to be given to the veterans which will be distributed overseas. Anyone wishing to donate to this project can contact any Emblem Club member. The annual Christmas party will be held on Dec. 14 beginning at 6 p.m. All Emblem Club members are invited to attend.
