Elks' Hoop Shoot this weekend at Southern State

The Elks National Free Throw “Hoop Shoot” regional contest will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Patriot Center on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. Registration will be held from 2-4 p.m. with the competition to begin following the SSCC men’s basketball game (scheduled to start at 2 p.m.). The event is sponsored by the Hillsboro Elks and hosted by Southern State.

Any Highland County child age 8-13 is invited to participate in this free contest. The contestant’s age group will be determined by his or her age as of April 1.

Winners from the Dec. 11 event will advance to the Jan. 8 district Hoop Shoot to be held at Wilmington College. The state competition is slated for Feb. 19, 2011, in Grove Port, and the national finals will be held in Springfield, Mass.
