Funds sought for
Veterans Memorial
The Highland County Commissioners and the VFW are placing a Veterans
Memorial on the Highland County Courthouse lawn. The cost of the memorial is
$50,000. In order to raise the money, they will put any veteran's name on a
brick for $50. All Highland County veterans are eligible. The committee will
also accept donations. Any veteran who wants to buy a brick may contact the
VFW at 393-0211 or call 393-9638.
Greenfield Farmer's Market
planning meeting March 24
The Greenfield Farmer's Market is kicking off the 2011 season with a
planning meeting on Thursday, March 24 at 6 p.m. at the Greenfield Public
Library. All past members and new members are invited to come and learn
about the market and how to sign up for a booth space. The Greenfield
Farmer's Market will open on Wednesday, June 1. Please contact Ellie Zint at

Sheriffs participate in
Battle of the Stars
Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward and Clinton County Sheriff Ralph Fizer,
Jr. will participate in a Battle of the Stars Basketball Shootout on March
26 at Lynchburg-Clay Middle School. The Highland County and Clinton County
D.A.R.E. sixth-grade all-star teams will also square off. The all-star girls
will play at 4 p.m., with all-star boys at 5 p.m. and the deputies competing
at 6 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Highland and Clinton County D.A.R.E. programs.
Democratic Party
spring dinner March 22
The Highland County Democratic Party will hold its spring dinner on
Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Highland County Administration Bldg.
Basement Meeting Room with a carry-in dinner and auction. The dinner will
include two speakers. Ohio Democratic Party Chair Chris Redfern will speak
regarding recent happenings around Ohio, especially in regard to Senate Bill 5, which will affect teachers, firefighters, and the middle class. Hamilton County Commissioner and former state auditor candidate David Pepper will also speak.
The Democratic Party has decided to have a carry-in dinner, free to the
public, in light of the fact that many are struggling in this Ohio economy,
especially in Highland County with its high unemployment rate. The club will
furnish meat, drinks, and table service. Please bring an item to be
auctioned for the event to help defray expenses.

The Open Door free meal will be served at the Greenfield United
Methodist Church on Saturday, March 26. Serving will be from 4-5:30 p.m. The
menu will be beef stew, corn bread, slaw, applesauce. Everyone is welcome.

VFW Post 9094 Men's Auxiliary will hold a St. Patrick's Day dinner Friday, March 18 from 4:30-7 p.m. Corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, bread and butter, and drinks will be served for $7 per dinner.

Prospect United Methodist Church, located at the corner of state Route
73 South and Prospect Road, will hold their annual soup supper on Saturday,
March 19 from 4:30-7 p.m. The menu will include vegetable soup, broccoli
soup, potato soup, chili, sloppy joes, hot dogs, coneys, sides, homemade

Local historian seeks
information on
Morrow Road church
Highland County historian Bob Patton is looking for information on the
church which was formerly located on Morrow Road at the location of the Fall
Creek (Liberty) Cemetery. He believes that it was a Presbyterian church and
that the building was abandoned around the 1950s and demolished about 40
years ago. He would like to see a photograph of the church, if any still

Carpenters House of Prayer
hosts March 19 dinner
A spaghetti dinner/auction, hosted by the Carpenters House of Prayer,
will be held at the Highland County Fairgrounds in the Wharton Building on
Saturday, March 19. The dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and will cost $5 for
spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert, and drink. The auction will begin
at 6 p.m., with items such as a used big screen TV and a used heat pump and

Peach Mountain Boys
perform in Ash Ridge
The Peach Mountain Boys will perform 7-10 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the
Ash Ridge School, located on Route 62 in Ash Ridge. The band features Jessie
Jeffers and Dan Kuhn on guitar, and Dave Driskill on bass fiddle. Come and
enjoy listening or dancing to good country music. Chili, hot dogs, cookies,
chips, and soft drinks will be served. There will also be door prizes and

The annual banquet of the Highland County Pork Producers will be held on
March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Ponderosa Banquet Center in
Hillsboro. A buffet style meal will be served by Ponderosa featuring grilled
pork tenderloins prepared by the Highland County Pork Producers. The
entertainment for the evening will be provided by local vocalist Paige
Staklhut. The Highland County Pork Industry Queen Contest will also be

March 11 at Senior Center
The Senior Resource “Fight Fraud” Fair will be held Friday, March 11
from 9-11:30 a.m. The fair is presented by the Morgan-Bodenhamer Highland
County Senior Center in partnership with the Office of Ohio Attorney General
Mike DeWine. Representatives from the Office of the Attorney General, Ohio
Department of Insurance, Ohio Department of Commerce, and the Ohio Consumers
Counsel will be on hand to answer questions and concerns about their

The Leesburg Lions Club is having its annual soup supper fundraiser on

Freedom Fellowship Church in Hillsboro will be having monthly songfests

Spring concerts
at The Barn
Southern Ohio’s concert showplace, The Fling Barn, welcomes two popular
performers to usher in The Barn’s 2011 spring concert series. On April 23,
David Rhodes Brown returns to The Barn, and on May 12, the Kentucky
Headhunters perform at the Folsom events center.
Tickets are $49 per person and this includes admission to both concerts.

The Overlook Retreat Banquet Center on Rocky Fork Lake will be hosting a

A fundraiser benefit for Melvin Greene will be held at the Highland
County Fairgrounds April 14 at the Wharton Building beginning at 5 p.m. The
