Four SSCC students
earn Franklin degrees
Four Southern State Community College students were awarded bachelor's
degrees from Franklin University in Columbus. The graduates were as follows:
Shara Cox of Hillsboro, healthcare management; George Greenlee of Leesburg,
business administration; Amanda Lyons of Hillsboro, business administration;
and Edward Moore of Fayetteville, applied management.
The students completed their bachelor's degrees through the educational
alliance between Southern State Community College and Franklin University,
combining on-campus coursework at Southern State with online classes through
Franklin.
Crowder named to
WSU president's list
Angela (Grate) Crowder earned a 4.0 GPA (president's list) for the
summer quarter at Wright State University of Dayton. She is a graduate
student working toward her master's of science in education leadership
curriculum and design. She will graduate from the program in August 2011.
She earned her bachelor's of science from Ohio University and her
associate's of applied science from Southern State Community College. She is
also a 2002 graduate of McClain High School.
She is currently employed as an adjunct instructor at Southern State
Community College and a part-time instructor at Daymar College-Chillicothe
as well as a substitute teacher at Greenfield
Exempted Village Schools. She is the daughter of Gary and Donna Grate of
Greenfield.
Highland House Museum
Christmas Shop set to open
The Highland House Museum Christmas Shop will be open every weekend in
November and December until Christmas. Hours are as follows: Friday 1-5
p.m., Saturday 1-4 p.m. and Sunday 1-4 p.m. Open house for the Christmas
Shop will be Friday, Nov. 5 from 1-5 p.m., with the theme "A Christmas to
Remember." Refreshments will be served.
AAUW Altrusa Book Sale
The AAUW Altrusa Book Sale will be held Thursday, Nov. 4 from 2-8 p.m.;
Friday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m.-1
p.m. at Highland County Administration Bldg. Basement, 114 Governor Foraker
Place, Hillsboro. Bestsellers, romance, paperbacks, cookbooks, children’s
books, and political books will be sold.
Southern Highland Joint
Fire District dinner Nov. 6
The Southern Highland Joint Fire District will host their annual
chili/spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Mowrystown Fire House, 50
Maple Ave., from 5-8 p.m. Your support through free will donations is

VFW fish fry Nov. 6
The VFW Post 9094 Fish Fry will be held Saturday, Nov. 6 from 4:30-7
p.m. All the fish you can eat for $7. Includes fries, slaw, hush puppies,
and a soft drink. Open to the public.
Veterans Day dinner
The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 123 will be hosting a Veterans
Day dinner on Saturday, Nov. 6 at AMVETS Post 61, 11541 North Shore Dr.,
Hillsboro. The program will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner being served at
6:30 p.m.
There is no charge for the dinner, and no reservations are required.
Hills & Dales 17th
Jingle Bell Bazaar
The Hills and Dales Jingle Bell Bazaar will be Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9
a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hills & Dales Training Center, 8919 U.S. 50 east.
More than 80 vendors will have on display: crafts, food, quilts, candles
and hundreds of unique handmade items.
Food will be available for purchase.

supper, auction Nov. 6
Sugar Grove United Methodist Women will host their annual soup
supper/craft auction at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church in Washington
C.H. on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 5-7 p.m. The craft auction will begin at 7:15
p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 10. Chili, potato,
and vegetable soups will be served.

LCHS hosts
Veterans Day program
The Lynchburg-Clay Veterans Day Program will be held at the
Lynchburg-Clay High School on Nov. 11. Refreshments will be served in the
library from 8-9 a.m., with the program beginning at 9 a.m. Parking will be
available in the first row of the LCHS staff and student parking lot. Past
and present veterans will be recognized, and the Lynchburg-Clay High School
band will perform.
Genealogical Society meeting
Dwight Crum, author and historian, will be the guest speaker at the Nov.
11 meeting of the Southern Ohio Genealogical Society to take place at 1487
N. High Street. Mr. Crum will present an interesting program on he history
and events that have taken place in Sinking Spring and
Brush Creek Township. Everyone is invited to attend the meeting at 7 p.m.
and an open house from 5-7 p.m.
Leesburg American Legion
hosts fish fry Nov. 11-12
The Leesburg American Legion Post 568 will hold a fish fry Nov. 11-12,

Hunter Education Course
There will be an Ohio Hunter Education Course sponsored by the Ohio
Division of Wildlife on Nov. 9, 10 and 12 from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday,
Nov. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be no class on Thursday,
Nov. 11. Participation in all four days of classes is required. The course
in being held at the United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall in Sinking
Spring. There is no charge for the course, but pre-registration is required
by calling 937-588-0015. There is no minimum age; however, students under 10
years must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. Do not bring
firearms.

HHS choir to present Messiah
The Hillsboro High School Symphonic Choir will once again collaborate
with the Highland County Community Chorus to present Part I of George
Frideric Handel's oratorio Messiah on Dec. 19. The community is invited to
participate in the chorus for this holiday presentation. Rehearsals will
begin Monday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the new HHS choir room. Rehearsals will
be held each Monday evening with a special dress rehearsal on Saturday

St. Mary Catholic School
book program under way
St. Mary Catholic School is participating in a great program that can
bring free books to our school. It’s called the SunnyD Book Spree, and the
program will donate 20 classroom books to every classroom that sends
in 20 SunnyD UPC labels. The container must be larger than 12 ounces. The
program ends Nov. 30. Labels can be dropped off at the school.
Christmas at the Cabin
New artisans are coming on board at Christmas at the Cabin, giving the
cabin a fresh look each new day. Among the new items available at the cabin
are suspense novels written by Saundra Crum Akers, who sets her stories in
area communities. She has novels which take place in Bainbridge, Waverly,
Sinking Spring, Chillicothe, Peebles, Greenfield, etc. – all for sale at the
cabin. The cabin is located on Cave Road off of U.S. 50. Call (937) 365-1388

T.E.A. Party meetings
The Highland County T.E.A. Party meets on the first Monday of each month
