First Presbyterian Church
of Greenfield hosts dinner
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will serve dinner on Sunday,
Jan. 15 from noon-2 p.m. in the church basement. The menu will include roast
pork, rosemary potatoes, green beans, salad, roll, cake, and drink. The cost
of the meal is a freewill donation. All proceeds will benefit the
church/manse renovation fund. Everyone is invited.
Liberty Township Trustees meet
on 4th Monday of each month
The Liberty Township Trustees will hold their meetings on the fourth Monday
of each month in 2012. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. The next meeting is
scheduled for Jan. 23.
TEA Party to host
candidates forum
Local voters will have a chance to hear from the candidates for Highland
County Commissioner at a forum sponsored by the Highland County TEA (Taxed
Enough Already) Party group.
The event will be held Monday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Hi-TEC building
in Hillsboro.
All six candidates who have filed petitions have been invited to attend
and speak to the public about questions regarding Highland County’s future,
ideas or plans for development, budgetary restraints and the local economy.
This forum is being made available to the public so that voters will be
better prepared to cast an informed vote in the Democratic and Republican
primary elections on March 6.
There are two commissioner seats to be filled this year. Incumbents
Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst are candidates again, along with Steve Cowdrey,
Brenda Losey, Randy Mustard and Josh Patton.
The winners in their respective primary elections will then face the
voters again in the November general election.
While in 2012, there will naturally be major national attention focused
on the presidential race, Highland County TEA Party urges citizens to take
part in becoming more knowledgeable about elections at all levels of
government.
SOACDF offers
educational grant
The Southern Ohio Agricultural and Community Development Foundation will
once again offer the Educational Excellence Competitive Grant for school
year 2012-13. The Educational Excellence grant is a one-time award of up to
$7,500 toward the cost of tuition, on campus housing, lab fees and books
that can be billed through the college or university. Producers who reside
in the 22 counties the foundation serves with a current Farm Service Number
on record with the Farm Service Agency as of July 1, 2011 and their
financial dependents or tobacco program eligible producers and their
financial dependents are eligible to apply.
Applicants must be enrolled full-time as a sophomore, junior or senior
in the 2012-13 school year at an accredited institution and be seeking a
bachelor’s degree. Students must also maintain 2.8 or higher GPA to be
eligible. Applications and guidelines for the Educational Excellence
Competitive Grant are now available at the SOACDF office or online at
www.soacdf.net.
The application period end Jan. 31, 2012. Applications will not be
accepted either before or after this period. If you have questions, please

New Directions Telethon
Jan. 24 in Greenfield
The 19th annual New Directions Youth Ministry Telethon is scheduled for
Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 7-9 p.m. on Channel 3 on Time Warner Cable in
Greenfield. There will also be live updates of the telethon broadcasting on
WVNU, 97.5 FM, for those who do not get cable Channel 3. The public is
invited to visit the GCTV-3 studio and the McClain High School Cafetorium,
where you can join the New Directions group for food, fellowship and prayer
and/or make a contribution in person. Many people prefer to make their
tax-deductible donations prior to the end of the year. If you would like to
make a donation now or any time prior to the telethon, please contact Mike

totals and will be acknowledged on-air during the telethon.
Cowan Lake Association
plans Jan. 27 dinner
The Cowan Lake Association of Sportsmen (CLASS) will host a ham and
beans dinner Friday, Jan. 27 from 4-7 p.m. at their location on 331
Beechwood Road (off Route 350) in Wilmington. The menu will include ham and
beans, cornbread, side dishes, desserts and beverages. The cost is $6 for
adults, $5 for seniors and $2 for children. Carry-out available.
SATH’s annual Sweetheart Charity Ball Feb. 11
SATH will be holding its annual Valentine’s Sweetheart Charity Ball on
Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Roberts Centre in Wilmington. The evening will
begin with appetizers at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing from 8-11 p.m.
The attire for the evening is semi-formal/formal.
The cost is $100 per couple which includes appetizers, dinner, dancing,
photos and door prizes. Child care will be available. Treat your sweetheart
to a special evening and help support SATH. SATH is a non-profit
organization that assists children with disabilities by sponsoring programs

The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati will sponsor a
Highland County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group on the

Instructional Basketball
The Lynchburg-Clay Athletic Boosters are taking registrations for their
K-3 Instructional Basketball/Cheerleading League. Registration is Saturday,
Jan. 14 at the Lynchburg-Clay High School during Youth Basketball games from
10 a.m.-noon.

Health Department meets Jan. 17
The Highland County Health Department will hold their monthly Board of
Health meeting on Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Highland County Health
Department, 1487 North High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro.
• The CARE-A-VAN Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service
presented by the Highland County Health Department and the Highland District
Hospital, will visit the Hillsboro Senior Citizen Center (parking lot across
street) from 9 a.m. - noon and the Hillsboro K-Mart parking lot from 1-4
p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
L-Clay Board meets Jan. 19
The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will meet in regular session on
Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education

Ross County Community Action
offers home heating assistance
The Ross County Community Action Organization has funds available to
assist income eligible Ross County residents with their home heating
bills. If you heat with electricity or natural gas, you may be eligible for
assistance if you have a shut-off notice or are moving into a
different home.
If you heat with with fuel oil, kerosene, propane, wood or coal, you
may be eligible if you have less than a 10-day supply on hand.

will help you determine your eligibility.
Aglow International meets Jan. 23
The Hillsboro chapter of Aglow International will meet Monday, Jan. 23
at 7 p.m. at the Ponderosa Banquet Center. Lisa Hess will be the featured
speaker, and praise and worship will be led by Hearts of Praise.
SATH hosts 3rd annual
chili cook-off Jan. 28
S.A.T.H. (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped), is having its third
annual “Souper Bowl” Chili Cook-Off and Cake Walk Saturday, Jan. 28 from 5-8
p.m. at the Hillsboro Elementary School Cafeteria. All are welcome to come
and taste the chili and judge the winners. Bring your change and vote for
your favorites, 25 cents per vote. There will be chili tasting, face
painting, games, cake walk, raffles and food to buy.
In addition to chili, there will be chicken and noodles, hot dogs,
peanut butter and jelly and lots more goodies. All proceeds go to support
S.A.T.H. and KAMP DOVETAIL.
Prizes for chili winners: 1st place $100, 2nd place $50 and 3rd place
$25. All contestants should bring six quarts of chili to be judged, along
with a $15 entry fee.

Young Agricultural Professionals
Leadership Experience March 9-10
The 2012 Young Agricultural Professionals Leadership Experience will be held
March 9-10 at the Marriott Northwest in Dublin, Ohio. Farm Bureau members
ages 18-35 who are an agricultural professional are invited to attend.
Workshops will include: Government Grants, Telling Your Story, Financial
Puzzles, Digital Video and Photography, Interviewing/Resume Building and
Farming with Family.
The cost is $130 per person if reservation is made by Feb. 3. After Feb.
3, the cost is $150 per person. Scholarships are available! All reservations
