Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene will host an early fall gathering on
Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. at McCoy Arena, 7541 Overman Road, Hillsboro. Round up your

campfire. Special guest Steve Womack, Cowboys for Christ
evangelist from Noble, Okla., will sing and share the Gospel. Bring a lawn

sausage breakfast plus other items such as sausage gravy and biscuits.

The second annual Relay for Life Fall Fling will be held at the Fling
Barn on Oct. 1 from 5:30-11 p.m. Come to the Fling Farm for a night of good
food and entertainment to help create a world with more birthdays. Tickets
are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. All proceeds of the event go to support

Grant application
deadline Oct. 7
The State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP), better known as the State
Issue 1 Program, the Small Governments Capital Improvement Program and the
Local Transportation Improvement Program (LTIP) are beginning their Round 26
funding cycles. Through these programs, financial assistance for public
infrastructure projects is available to subdivisions in District 15, which
includes the following southern Ohio counties: Adams, Brown, Fayette,
Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton.
The programs are competitive, as projects compete for funding with each
other for a set allocation of funds. Each project is scored using an
objective rating system, and funds are awarded on the basis of those scores.
Subdivisions applying for Round 26 funds should begin the planning process
as soon as possible. The deadline to submit completed applications is Oct.

Countywide curfew
in effect Oct. 1-31
A countywide curfew is in effect for the month of October for all
persons under the age of 18. The curfew will run through Oct. 31 and require
all persons under the age of 18 to be off the streets and in their homes by
10 p.m., Monday through Thursday and midnight Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The curfew does not apply where children are accompanied by parents,
legal guardians or custodians. Exception is also made for children attending
church, school or employment activities. Enforcement will be handled by
all law enforcement agencies, including the sheriff’s department, city or
village police and juvenile probation officers. After consultation with law
enforcement, it is requested that each jurisdiction set beggars night on
Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6-8 p.m.

Funds sought for
Veterans Memorial
The Highland County Commissioners and the VFW are placing a Veterans
Memorial on the Highland County Courthouse lawn. In order to raise the
money, they will put any veteran’s name on a brick for $50. All Highland
County veterans are eligible. The committee will also accept donations. Any
veteran who wants to buy a brick may contact the VFW at 393-0211 or call

Hospice of Hope
Ohio Valley offers
vacation raffle
Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley has several fundraisers throughout the year
which help provide quality hospice care. They will be raffling a
seven-day/six-night vacation to Ellington Plantation in Myrtle Beach for the
week of Nov. 20-27. Tickets are $10 each and only 500 will be sold. The
winning raffle ticket will be awarded on Oct. 28. For more information, call

Highland Soil & Water
Conservation District’s
annual meeting Oct. 13
The Highland Soil & Water Conservation District’s 69th annual meeting
will be held on Oct. 13, at the Highland County Training and Employment
Center (Hi-TEC) located at 1575 N. High Street in Hillsboro from 5-7 p.m.
The Highland SWCD will be hosting a social gathering with light refreshments
being served. Various events will be held throughout the evening including
the Supervisor election from 5-6:30 p.m., a silent auction to benefit
conservation programs and the presentation of awards is scheduled to begin
at 6:30 p.m.
Two supervisors will be elected to serve a three-year term. Jeff Boike,
Nathan Brown and Jeff Duncan are the candidates on the ballot. You may vote
on the evening of the annual meeting or by requesting the proper absentee
ballot forms from the Highland SWCD office at (937) 393-1922, ext. 3.

host Crop Walk Oct. 8
Highland County Church Women United is holding its 2011 Crop Walk on
Saturday, Oct. 8 (rain date Oct. 15) at 2 p.m. The group will meet at
Liberty Park in Hillsboro.
Hungry people in developing countries typically walk as much as six
miles a day to get food, water and fuel, and to take their goods to market.
The group will walk to be in solidarity with their struggle for existence.

p.m. A masquerade contest for all ages will begin at 7 p.m. with a cake and

The Marshall School Committee will host the third annual Fall Fun-Fest
at the Marshall School Gymnasium, Saturday, Oct. 15 from 4-7 p.m. Carnival
games, grocery bingo, popcorn, cotton candy, cake walks and a
50/50 raffle will be enjoyed. Admission is free for all ages. A costume
contest will begin at 6 p.m. Game tickets are $.25 each or five for $1.
