October is the start of our busy holiday season here at the Leesburg Library. Our Christmas Merry Money Program sign up begins on Monday, October 3. Children age 2 through 6th grade can come in to get a log and start reading and earning money to buy Christmas presents for their friends and family. All reading logs must be turned in by Tuesday, November 22.
The Leesburg Library Christmas elves will visit us again this year to help our readers with their shopping on Saturday, December 3. Complete rules and details will be given upon registration.
We will be having a Pumpkin Decorating Contest this month. Pick up a mini pumpkin for 25 cents at the front desk and decorate it using any medium (paint, markers, paper, etc). Write your name and age on the bottom of the pumpkin and turn it in by Friday, October 21st. The library staff will select winners on October 24th. Prizes will be awarded for child, teen and adult categories.
The Leesburg Life Squad will be here to take blood pressure readings for our patrons from 3:30-4:30 PM on Tuesday, October 4.
Knit Together continues to meet on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7 PM. Feel free to join the fun! The Library will be closed on Monday, October 10 in observance of Columbus Day. Please use our outdoor book drop to return items.
Halloween fun for our teens takes place during their SPARX meeting on Thursday, October 13 at 5 PM. Pick up a copy of “Found” by Margaret Peterson Haddix for our book discussion and join us for food, fun and a flick. All Leesburg area teens in the 7th grade and up are invited to attend.
We have had many requests for an evening story time for children who may not be able to attend our Thursday morning story times. We invite parents and
their 3-5 year olds to join us on the third Monday of each month from 6-6:30 PM for story time fun! This month’s evening story time is Monday, October 17. Join us for lots of fun.
Dawna Jo Kiesling from the Highland County Extension Office will visit with us on Thursday, October 20 from 10 AM-12 PM. She will be sharing information on fall treats rich in Vitamin A.
Our adult book group, RRR will be having a lunch outing this month. Please see a member for more details.
We hope you will be able to Trick or Treat with us on Thursday, October 27 from 6-7 PM. Please note that we are closed during the last hour of Beggar’s Nite, so if you want to get some treats from the library, you will need to arrive prior to 7 PM.
Story times continue at 10 AM for Wee Ones and 10:30 AM for Tater Tots. Our themes this month include Pizza Month, Fire Prevention Day, Make a Difference Day and Happy Halloween.! Stop by our front desk or call us with questions about our fun story times.
